2 quick small nitpicking questions:
is there a quick way to do the 50 original word count (an option on word lets say) or do we have to use our brains and fingers?
I presume that if we quote someone within a poem that that will not count into the 50 original words, is that right?
apologies if this has been answered before and I missed it. Thanks.

Hi, nomoth, there are many word counter tools on the net that you can use, here is one:
https://wordcounttools.com/
That is correct in regards to the quote. Only your written poetry applies to the count. Thus, make sure you remove the quote when using the word counter tool.
