O’Malley, The Bobby Cat
Every evening at, oh, around quarter past eight
You are likely to see him around the park’s gate
O’Malley, the Bobby Cat, walking his beat
Keeping rodents in check while patrolling the streets
They say he was once just a wild alley cat
In The War, no one knew where O’Malley was at
He returned with a new found respect for the law
But still tough as nails, with the sharpest of claws
With dignified grace he now strolls through his beat
Policing his city for something delicious to eat
And occasionally he’ll chat up a jellicle lady
Or roust out a tomcat who looks a bit shady
Now, you may have heard of the most Awefull Battle
‘Twixt the Peke and the Pollicle Boisterous Rabble
O’Malley watched without bother to get involved
(‘Twas a matter best left to be sorted by dogs)

Of Death And Birth: Fire And The Rose
'We die with the dying:
See, they depart and we go with them.
We are born with the dead:
See, they return, and bring us with them.'
-T. S. Elliot
I
The way of ignorance is the way home:
Go, go! Folly is the only way;
knowledge is the unlearning of itself.
Do not try harder, try less;
this is the only way, the unpropitious one.
(Love is the only lesson that can't be learned.)
The Sky and The Earth agree:
I end where I began,
the way there known only by my feet,
not mind nor hands.
II
In warm Autumn, a rose still blooming
knows not its fate, cares not;
it feels the dust on its petals
when the wind ceases:
There is no deception in its perfume.
(The sweet is the acrid and one reforms the other.)
Humankind bears its only separation;
there is none that eludes timelessness.
We are the sole keepers of time
which persists unconquered;
its origin remains a rose aflame.
III
Where past meets future worries cease
and time, the old time awakens;
old time is not our time, the time of
a world atwitter.
The timing of death and birth are momentary,
but live in every moment we live and do not die
when we die; they supersede us:
They cannot be embodied at the same time
although they are one and the same,
being each the penultimate experience.
IV
In what season does the rose dry silently,
awaiting autumnal darkness
with its own faint hebetude,
a dormant inner Spring inhabiting
its branches in motionless fervor.
(The season of the rose in bloom is every season,
as such is the season of the flame, for the two
are each to the other betokeneth.)
The Sun requires The Moon to bear this matrimony;
together they dance around the immaterial light
by which their very existence depends.
.....
See, they depart and we go with them.
We are born with the dead:
See, they return, and bring us with them.'

A big thank you to all who paid tribute to this month's featured poets. As in previous months, these are very difficult to judge, and sometimes come down to a simple typo or grammatical error breaking a tie. This month was no different.
Call it emulation, we seek the essence of the classic author in the entrant's own style - not just replacing words of existing poems, but writing as though they were those classic authors ( regardless of form utilized ).
Our Classic Champions, as we like to refer to them, work HARD, and it shows in their writing. They study and deliver without any borderline plagiarism. They double-check spelling, grammar, form, guidelines, and put forth their heart into these comps.
We recognize that effort and award accordingly, judging on a scale of 1-5 spelling, grammar, punctuation, form, and content - while the most important question we ask ourselves is this: Did we feel like we were reading a classic poet?
All that being said, congratulations to the following winners!
First Place: PoetsRevenge
Your entry inspired by T.S Eliot's Four Quartets simply knocked our socks off. It was a true homage to one of his most popular contributions to Poetry.
Second Place: ReggiePoet
You nailed the essence of Eliot with "Not On Purpose, especially with that commentary on modern society woven in
Third Place: Hepcat61
The moment we read your entry, we were immediately struck by the sense that it was inspired by Eliot's The Hollow Men!
And a round of applause to everyone else who braved Eliot!
Congratulations to everyone for quality entries; thank you again for honoring the classics. We hope to see you in this month's Classic Corner Champion challenges!

My congratulations to PoetsRevenge as trophy winner (and having earned it hands down!), and to the gentlemen who also placed: Mssrs Hepcat61 and ReggiePoet! In fact, everyone was wonderful. And my thanks to our co-hosts Ahavai and JohnnyBlaze.

You're very welcome, PR & Kathy. Your presence and worthy contributions make the classics exactly what they are, classic. Not to mention very difficult to judge! We look forward to seeing you in the championships!
