Strange Creature
Long time love-affair with words
Started out majoring in Lit.
Turned my back, gave it all
away, for some scientific shtick
Been concocting poems for a while
there’s a frustrated writer in me
Hey presto self-publication
is made simple here at DUP
As a new ‘Strange Creature’ to the site I found this place a sanctuary
You’ll find authors here of wit creating verse that is exemplary.

An invitation to the countryside
Is what I thought it’d be on a train ride.
The city lights had blinked off at sunrise,
The station disappeared leaving old ties.
And after living years a working poet,
Was going on hiatus, didn’t know it.
Off to a little pond with leaping fishes,
I hadn’t made a plan to suit my wishes.
I had no expectations of my own,
Was weary of the rut & missed my home.
And as I watched the scenery fly past,
I felt the fresh air’d do me good at last.
Though once I came upon my destination
And waited to unload my obligations,
The train began to pull away without me,
With just a carpetbag, I felt all at sea.
And once the red caboose went round the bend,
A sign said “Strange Creature, This Is The End”.
I turned around, about to fight or flight,
If I were Dickinson what would I write?
I didn’t understand the situation.
Since flattery’s begot from imitation,
And just then saw a Mr Lobo ride in
By hog with bags to drop off in the mail bin.
So I approached and introduced myself,
Informing I’d been sent there by an elf.
He smiled & told me rooms are very cheap,
Then took me on his chopper to the Deep.
Mr Lobo = Shadow Guardian LobodeSanPedro - the 1st I met & who conversed & helped me.

wow Jade-Pandora I am really lovin this piece. You really did put a lot of thought into this and I love how you painted this piece as an adventure to a new place to find a new home... Very original and outspoken...

STRANGE CREATURE
When I moved away from friends
To the creeks and redwood glens
With my social life disturbed
For a job in the suburbs
I struck up erotic writes
With a friend of keen insights
She’d been penning blue awhile
Twice my age yet so in style
And I somehow became more
Than student scribing amour
She and I had found a way
To make words roll in the hay
While in “real life” I’m discreet
Found these writes tasted so sweet
Felt like sharing some cocktails
In a place that so avails
So to D.U.P. I came
(Now you know what is to blame)
To the creeks and redwood glens
With my social life disturbed
For a job in the suburbs
I struck up erotic writes
With a friend of keen insights
She’d been penning blue awhile
Twice my age yet so in style
And I somehow became more

Hello, Stranger
I’ve entered new territory
I eagerly upload my poems one by one
Pull up a chair as you begin to read my story
And embark with me on a journey that has already begun.
I’ve joined DUP on December 26th, 2017
With an open mind and high expectations
I had no idea how my experience would be
I was pleasantly surprised by the marvelous creations.
The DUP members are friendly and talented
I couldn’t believe the variety of genres and quality of work
Being on par with these poets was certainly a challenge
Yet their feedback and my own growth opened my eyes to my worth.
I admire Lawrence’s ease with rhymes
And Jarlath’s genuine poems that express his thoughts
Reading Orenda’s poems is like drinking a fine glass of wine
DUP’s mistress of the web is a mysterious, yet friendly boss.
Lilith’s poems always tease my imagination
Whereas my fellow Spanish speaker, Gahddess, writes sophisticatedly
DUP’s royal tigress, Jade, writes poems with diverse interpretations
PandoraUnleashed is an old soul like me.
Our talented host, Joe-D, has invited me to participate in this competition
I thought I’d give it a try, but a poem is not enough to describe my wonderful experience
Whether I read and/or wrote poems, or interact with other members in conversation
There are many more members of which I am curious.
I’ve written over 140 poems, I’ve got 108 followers, and I’ve won some competitions
I was even Poet of the Week back in late October-early November
I’m so happy and thankful to DUP for my poems’ recognition
And for welcoming me with open arms as their moon-ruled member.

I used to think
it was only me
a strange creature
writing thoughts
that make me bleed
within
struggling to find balance
between sadness
and screams
trying
to understand why
these thoughts
that I write
will not leave
me be
what are you doing
I used to ask
myself
scrapping together
what I needed to see
my own reflection
on my own personal screen
to begin the journey
years ago
to finally see
are there other strange creatures
like me
who bleed
when they right
within
the emotions
that they scribe
online
it was only me
a strange creature

struggling to find balance

A Strange Creature
A STRANGE CREATURE
The name given to me
As I stepped inside
DUP
A message board, social media
They all the same form
At the beginning
Oh so I thought
A little puzzled
To submit my poems on the net
Maybe someone would steal them
And forever I would regret
But looking at other people's posts
Many poems they put
And even some
Posted the most
Giving me the security
My poems were safe
But now I had to face
Criticism
From all over the world
My poems
Always stayed near to me
Never once
Had I shared them with anyone
And now I was a little afraid
My poems were no good
A couple reads, some comments
Erased that early pain
But though sometimes
I feel down
When I post something new
That I feel
Is super good
But society
Doesn't even bother
To take one look
But instead of....
Backing down or even thinking about quitting
I tie up my boots
Pencil, eraser, weapons in hand
I sit down and write
Something similar to, "Green Eggs and Ham"
And then I get
The uppermost response
Filling my life with excitement
This battle of shyness
I have finally won
But the life of a poet
My work is never done
No matter how big
Or the many poems I post
If someone shall ever ask
How I view myself
A STRANGE CREATURE
I will always be
The name given to me
As I stepped inside
DUP
