To rise above
when you are
Irritated
by the shallow ones
who refuse
to rub
their mirror
you must listen
to the wise
me myself
and I
when you are
Irritated
by the shallow ones
who refuse
to rub
their mirror
you must listen
to the wise
me myself
and I

Speed of Presence
Be like a tree and let the dead leaves drop. ~ Rumi
Exuberance reveals many colors;
it's an outward sharing of fertility
Spring shares a newness of youth
a fertile aliveness of birth;
Autumn returns that fertility
of seasoned experience
and warm intimacy to the earth;
its urgent poignancy resides
in the recognition of a limited future
Spring knows nothing about
Everybody loves Spring
until Autumn presents itself
allowing the natural coming and going
of that whose time has come and gone
It slows down to the speed of Presence
changing once again the equation
from willful giving to willing release
without which there can be no Spring
~

I Am a Work in Progress
I am a work in progress,
Always in process,
From the time I took my first breath,
Until my death,
Everything in between is up to me,
I know I will never be perfect,
But to that effect,
I can strive to reach my potential,
To the best of my understanding and intellect.
I am an old canvass,
Painted over and over again,
With each coat becoming thicker,
Learning quicker that as time goes by,
As the ink dries I represent something new,
I can either be a reflection
Or a representation of the artist,
For underneath each layer,
Is a different version of me.
I am a student of life,
Sometimes struggling to get it right,
Reminiscing of what I could’ve done better,
But dwelling over old mistakes
Never changes the past,
Instead looking toward the future,
As an optimist and a realist,
I have no control over the world,
But only of emotions and myself.
I am an unfinished book,
Written and amended every single day,
Going back and reflecting,
Gathering and collecting,
Choosing to what to focus on,
Knowing what will help me grow,
Distinguishing right and wrong,
With a better grasp of myself
So that when I die,
Maybe then my work is done.

Hi, Wally
Thank you for your entry.
Per the guidelines Rumi must be hashtagged, as ( in part ) this comp is to garner enough posts to create a theme; therefore, to fully qualify you'll need to post the poem on your DUP page, then share the link here.
You can edit your above post with the new link once you posted to your pages.
Again, thank you for your entry. It's much appreciated.

Getting Older
I am never getting any younger, but I need
To stop worrying about all my laugh lines
And wrinkles because those are all signs
That I am truly living life. I cry and bleed,
But that shows that I am human. I stumble,
Fall and make a mess out of things, but that
Shows I am imperfect. I sometimes lay flat
To see how the world may tilt and crumble
Like leaves on a fall day, but that is why I
Wish for a different perspective when life
Gets dull on the edges. The cuts of a knife
I ignore because they hurt, but sharpen my
Senses. Life sometimes throws a curve ball
And I swing, but I still have my solid wall.

Firstly, thank you for your patience. When entries are as stellar as some of these were, it comes down to the bare bones of basics, e.g. - spelling, grammar, diction, typos, etc.
The most disheartening factor of this competition were those who failed to hashtag #Rumi despite the guidelines, and being reminded in the comp twice, and a last call for revisions to qualify. Those disqualified are as follows: ReggiePoet, Slipalong, Switchblade, and Drone.
The winners are as follows:
Josh, we found yours to be both creative as well as original. Additionally, the execution was flawless; therefore, you took first place with a score of 36. 🏆
Wally, you were tied for second with PoetsRevenge. This was a tough one because yours contains a very noticeable typo and trips the flow when reading, particularly out loud:
Gathering and collecting,
Choosing to what to focus on,
Knowing what will help me grow
Everything but that typo was excellent; however, it was still a significant factor in judging. Because of that you placed third with a score of 32.
PoetsRevenge, we felt like you used the word summer inordinately, and went to the well with it a bit too often, which created a meandering effect. However, your execution was flawless, and our opinion is just that - opinion: many may disagree and think the effect us fine. Therefore, you placed second with a score of 34.
Thank you all for participating, and congratulations to the winners.

Ahavati and 'team', thank you for the honour of choosing my poem as the winning entry; I'm both encouraged and humbled at the same time. Congrats too to PoetsRevenge and Wally, snapping at my heels. :))

Congratulations Josh, well deserved. To PoetsRevenge, congratulations too. Ahavati, thank you for the mention (and pointing out that hiccup in that work in progress I must've taken literally). But most all, I'm thankful you introduced me a great writer and the wisdom he shared. Wonderful competition.
