Poetry Contest Description
Poem of the Month ... What have you read?
Greetings, Fellow Poets! It's time for our "Poem of the Month" to be featured in the DUP 'Poem of the Month Hall of Fame' and on the official facebook page for October 2018.
You have two weeks to nominate no more than two of you favorite poems from another DUP poet!
Please note the following when making nominations:
1. Self nominations are not accepted. The great majority of the competitions here are about spotlighting one's own work on a particular topic or theme. This is a chance to nominate that poem that you wish you had written but some other great talent here beat you to it.
2. Please limit your nominations to TWO poems. You can nominate a single poem for two different poets; but the nomination maximum remains at TWO (no matter how many pseudonyms they have). The majority of competitions on DUP cap nominations at one or two poems so there's no need to go beyond that.
No DUPLICATES. If someone nominates the same poem the entry will be deleted. If you like it that much wait and vote for it!
Any genre except erotica or pornography. This is a Facebook feature and we must adhere to their guidelines.
BIG CHANGE:
Previous Poem of the Month Hall of Fame members CAN BE NOMINATED ... but a poet may only win once in the time period from November 2017 - December 2018.
Simply put: We want to see a cross section of writers acknowledged.
Any member who is banned or disables their account PRIOR to the win will be automatically disqualified.
Any nominated member who wishes to opt out of the competition may do so by messaging me ( Poem-Worm ). I will contact the person who nominated you and request an alternate nomination.
Nomination Duration is two weeks followed by a week of site voting!
Running list of winners:
November 2017 ... NAAJIR
December 2017 ... POETSPEAK
January 2018 ... LADY_OF_THE_QUILL
February 2018 ... LEPPEROCHAN Craic in a Box

July 2018 ... MEADOWSWEET
August 2018 ... LAYLA

well since most of you just talk about it anyway...
all I said was that I prefer
an intimate conversation to sex and
the whole office went quiet
it was like they were scared
to carry on the discussion there and then
in case I had an orgasm...

Vision Quest
With a gypsy heart I travel alone,
On this path is where I'll find my home,
In the wilderness that's where I belong,
One with nature, I could never be wrong,
The breeze in my hair, sun on my face,
That's where I'll find my final resting place,
But for now, I will keep traveling this path,
That will one day lead me home.
A vision quest is what I need, to help find my
destiny, And I can find my inner peace, my
spirit animal by my side,Watching from
far and wide, as I climb up this mountain
to the cave up top, I sit in a circle, with four
flags in four spots, praying for my vision
and see my next stop,
I see myself standing there, with mother moon
watching me, it is clear what I must do,
there is so much I need to do,
before my time is over.
Born healer is what I was told, my vision
showed me, so- how could I have known,
my life on this 3rd dimension plane was
to help others who are in pain,
This is my life, I found my purpose,
now I'm on my way to find the ones I must save......

Don't Believe My Smile
I wish I could close my eyes and sleep tonight
I wish I could erase those bad memories from my heart
I wish I could forget who I am just for one day
Please don't believe my smile
Don't believe when I say I'm fine
Don't let me give up, hold my hand
Tell me I will be okay
Tell me I won't be forgotten
Tell me I still have a chance, no need to be hidden
Don't allow me to hurt my lips with this fake smile
Don't believe it ‘cause I'm bleeding inside
I'm weak like a sick flower
I could die if you leave me alone
I'm so afraid of sleeping in the dark
And I can’t turn on the lights
‘cause I don't want you to look at my ugly face
I don't know why I'm crying again
I don't know why this baby girl in me won't grow up
I don't know where to go
And I don't know what to do
I'm lost in my own world
Many closed doors are surrounding me
but I don't know which one I've to choose
Can't find my way can't see my future
my tears blinded my eyes, can't you see I'm broken
My body is sweating, can't you feel my hot fever?
I was screaming in my dreams but no one heard my voice
I was running toward paradise but my feet didn't mirror my moves
Can you read my words?
Can you see my wounds?
Can you understand when I say
Don't believe my smile
‘Cause I'm not happy at all
I can't be where I want
Cause I don't know where I belong
I don't even know who I am..

Recumbent
Beauty wrapped in a black dress
recumbent in the lingering dip
stating mysteries from time’s start
with the answer beyond the clad
my breath is taken in response
to the marvel of such a frame
I’ll admit of biased thoughts
predilections swarm to my mind
salaciousness now expressed
in two tones that contrast
demur found in fabric’s grasp
while the skin accedes much more
flesh and fabric cooperate
contours spit between the two
demanding worship in the thoughts
to the pious or the lewd
the shapes below textile’s breadth
echo vistas in distant lands
decolletage hinting nothing more
than potential held within
the less is more as the curves
speak to desires now suppressed
for the sweep of God’s grace
is recognized in the nude restrained.

Sweet Dreams
Across the miles
the rhythmic waves
I cradle you
fingers tussle your hair
Watching you doze
fend off sleep
while I whisper soft
bits of poem
My voice is glassy
almost tickling
lulling you deep
under my spell
At this moment
there is no past
no future
only the honeysuckle now
Along with an emerging
inkling
delicate most blossom
my budding love
the rhythmic waves
I cradle you
fingers tussle your hair
Watching you doze
fend off sleep
while I whisper soft
bits of poem
My voice is glassy
almost tickling
lulling you deep
under my spell
At this moment

no future

Along with an emerging

delicate most blossom
my budding love

Beside the pond.... (wistful)
Alone,
I sat beside the pond
this morning.
Early sun ...
vibrant in its warm flush
of golden welcome
came cascading down
from treetops' glow,
embracing grass,
gifting colors vividly alive,
lifting flowers' faces …
with their honey-pollened smiles.
I was amazed
at how the breeze knew
I missed you
or was even thinking of you,
but I’d swear
it touched mine with your cheek,
slid a wisp of your locks
across my shoulder,
and became the sweetness
of your breath.
Olive oil and rose bouquet ...
... it hung for awhile
in the morning air,
a fragrant marker
along a trail of yesterdays,
leading to You ...
places of dreams and hope,
of love and laughter
and impossible possibilities.
I almost started to believe
I’d turn my head ~
and you’d be there.
Each year
has come and gone …
You, like fertile mana
ever glowing, growing
in my heart.
It’s said all things end,
and walking back to the house,
I sensed that coming truth
as Autumn's leaves
began falling
like tears ~
washing around
my feet.

ONE SURINAM CHERRY
One surinam cherry
Tasted so sweet
And mysterious
It made me desire all the rest
Of those terribly bitter things
One surinam cherry
Above all the rest
Because life is full of bitter things
It is mysterious
How you could be so sweet
Tasted so sweet
And mysterious
It made me desire all the rest
Of those terribly bitter things
One surinam cherry
Above all the rest
Because life is full of bitter things
It is mysterious
How you could be so sweet

The Sacred Art of Self Decoration with Monarch Butterflies
(Butterfly Contemplation)
There comes a time when doing what you want
without regard for other living things,
because there’s nothing that exists like you.
Will show all of your faults, and constant haunt
with smallest creature Mother Nature brings,
until you have the sense for what to do.
And who but I of noble tiger breed,
would take exception being told the rules
and heavy-handed lessons, to become
a new example living by the creed:
I serve a God that watches over fools,
yet I’m suppose to follow and succumb.
Then also comes a time you set aside,
for reasons of your own, rethinking life
because it’s bigger and because it’s small.
And never mattered, owning to my pride,
for such the insignificance of strife,
and never caused a moment’s nit at all.
That’s when it came into my life, the spark.
To unlock every jungle forest’s path,
in praise of what I thought I used to be.
Was only just a holiday, a lark.
Could not be further from the truth of wrath,
the shallow waters shown reflected me.
The little one from this, first to approach,
that flittered in its tiger guise t’ward me,
and settled on a lily pad nearby.
I snort “What purpose have you to encroach?”
Its wings folded closed, no fear could I see.
Thank you, my Father, I’m a butterfly.
At first I felt the urge to give a ROAR,
Dismissing scruff without another thought.
For who’s this upstart that can do no harm;
“It wastes my time, I’ll not waste anymore.
I’ll dwell on worthy things the way I ought.”
But was I not taught better for my charm?
“You are confusing me, I don’t like this.
Of how you show yourself with marks like mine,
with colors of a sunset bringing night.”
If butterflies can smile, I couldn’t miss.
For if it came the moment and the time,
the way it looked at me, I felt I might.
The little creature lifted up in air,
to hover like a blossom on my breath.
It didn’t have a voice the way I do,
I would not even know that it was there.
Like from a visit, taken home by Death.
The voice is in my head, and gives a clue.
My Father, I’m a child before it’s birth,
who comes to you as many others will.
As Monarchs, we won’t live for very long.
There’s some of us will be born to this earth,
and to your ‘streak’ a dream of yours fulfilled.
Before the next full moon we’ll all be gone.
The season of a new moon came and went,
and gifted me the son I thought I’d lost.
His ‘ambush’ mother takes him on long walks.
I know for certain where that voice was sent,
and where that butterfly and I had crossed.
I miss the times we had, so few, our talks.
Whenever I’m here now, I contemplate,
through any season, every day and night.
Shadows and clouds of Monarch butterflies,
that give one inspiration to create.
They sit upon my fur, give voice in flight.
They call me Father. I’m still not sure why.
”streak”, and “ambush”= Though the tiger is a solitary animal, where a number of these cats occur together the correct name for the group is a 'streak' or an 'ambush' of tigers. Tiger groups normally only occur in captivity in unnatural social groups. In the wild, a tigress with cubs would also qualify as a streak or an ambush.
