Poetry Contest Description
The Suicide Forest
Aokigahara, also known as the Sea of Trees, is a forest in Japan near the base of Mount Fuji where hundreds of suicide victims are found each year. I want you, dear poet, to go dark and write a suicide note as if you, yourself, were to go there and do the deed.
Give me what you got.
Get it off your chest
Make it raw
Make it visceral

What a morbidly exquisite start. Thanks and condolences.

I figured as much, my friend. I just had to put a little morbid flair into my comment.

The Perfect Place To Die
( Rensaku: linked Tanka )
1) Aokigahara Dream
this belov’ed sight
I’ve grown up with a lifetime,
even out at sea
helping Father mend his nets—
he and brother haul a catch
lurching from the waves,
thoughts of late spring pilgrimage
family outing days—
tossing back the smaller fish
before we set sail for home
early next morning,
Mother’s honored sisters come,
cherished reunion—
helping prepare the lunches
when we honor Fuji-San
Father’s ‘Buddha’ truck
loading for the trip, and us
packed just like sardines—
off we go with happy shouts,
Yamanashi Prefecture!
2) In Mount Fuji’s Shadow
honored sisters sing
old tradition travel songs—
men on bicycles
smile and wave as we pass by
watching glancing scenery
Father nodding head
in time with sisters’ singing,
brother Yoshi grins
as Mother leans, turns around
focusing through camera lens
and when we arrive,
the forest, black, forbidding
where no sun enters,
of bones dangling from branches
and no life leaves after dark
we walk the thin trail,
it fades where thick roots tangle
when time and rain caught,
o’er layers of eruption
the humid breath and strangle
I haven’t seen them,
anyone, since darkness fell,
and only silence
what I hear and cannot tell
if I died or everyone
3) The Black Sea Of Trees
costs of being old
the elderly forgotten—
abandon a soul
having done what love dictates
for the chance to die in bed
and the lovers flock
like two birds of a feather,
for they too are mocked
as the end, their tragedy,
never knows eternity
hoops of braided hemp
as if trees make offerings—
the death po’ms of monks,
scratched out kanji on tree bark
of sentinels’ no longer
a single bird call,
rustlings of its floundering—
in which direction
did it make its last mistake,
‘fore once again a calming
4) The Suicide Forest
as the forest stands,
forever firm in lava
regurgitated
a millennium ago—
storing its own in the caves
trespassers no more
and the volcano is stilled,
snow cap is unchanged,
with the belly of the beast
bulging till more come again
to honor dark spawn,
to consecrate the mother,
the roots with their blood—
and even they are all gone
In the fires of Fuji-San

i forget constantly that death isn't funny.
and it's strange, i've welcome death in my life like an old friend. he is not evil, for he quietly resides in the back of my mind while he sits and waits for me.
he waits for my final day, my will to end my life so he can finally hold me in his arms and tell me that i did okay. that i did the best that i could in life so i don't feel as bad about how my life turned out. this is how i see death.
whenever i make a morbid joke about my own death or suicide to others, it upsets them. meanwhile i am null and void to the idea.
i have to remember that they don't think like me, that they don't understand the dark humor i take with my own eventual suicide and death. i have to remember that they feel different about death. meanwhile i greet him with my arms wide open, waiting for his cold embrace that'll finally set me free from the mistake that is my existence.
i have to remember to be silent. to shut down, to not let them linger in the shadows of my soul, or otherwise they might try to help. i don't want their help.
i want to die.

Sayonara
(A Postcard from Aokigahara)
I can feel the panic setting in,
My mechanical heart beat is going faster,
Drowning in a sea of greenery I am trying,
Dying slowly after the wicked laughter.
I am lost amid the cypress and red pines,
Some of the branches have become loose,
Calling me, telling me to hang in there,
As if ghosts have prepared me a noose.
I can feel it deep in the pit of my stomach,
This is the place where my fear will disappear,
The phantom voices will finally go silent,
My fading breath is the only thing I hear.
I have left everything behind,
I take no possessions to the other side,
I only carry my darkest secrets,
In the forest of suicide.

Beaten? So am i
Dishonored and taken for granted. So have I
Count everyone who's hurt you and plan vengeance on them. So will I
Tried to fake a smile
But you're hurting deep inside
Tried selling your soul. The devil just wouldn't buy
Prayed that your enemies will suffer to the hands of time
You're revelation shows no light
Tried to take your life
But your hatred and vengeance has turned you blind
You have nothing to call your own
Loneliness has made your mine
A soul once so kind
Find it hard to fake a smile
A powerful hand that has forsaken it's might
I see nothing in your sight
But darkness growing per sand of time
Forgive them for their crimes
So that you Can be able to free
Free Yourself from the darkness that fills your mind
You're hurting so am i
Forsake this world. So will I
I'm your soul begging you to end this life

Shi no arashi
groans garbled among the silent trees
barks dark but glowing in the shades
the night still yet the sounds unnerves
the forest with its anticipating glee
the path aglow with souls
of men who came to court death
wanting to live yet have to die
for nothing seemed to dawn for the morrow
as men lied down in tents
awaiting the swift winds of death
shivering as the tide turned
they lived again briefly happy and sad times
it would come for them swift
sometimes in slow torturing pain
they would embraced the swords
or slash their bowels out
either way, they die in honour
as they see it.
