Poetry Contest Description
Nominate your favorite poem by a DUP artist for February 2018 recognition on DUP FaceBook.
Greetings, Fellow Poets! It's time for our "Poem of the Month" to be featured in the DUP 'Poem of the Month Hall of Fame' and on the official facebook page for February 2018.
You have three weeks to nominate no more than two of you favorite poems from another DUP poet!
Please note the following when making nominations:
1. Self nominations are not accepted. The great majority of the competitions here are about spotlighting one's own work on a particular topic or theme. This is a chance to nominate that poem that you wish you had written but some other great talent here beat you to it.
2. Please limit your nominations to TWO poems. You can nominate a single poem for two different poets; but the nomination maximum remains at TWO per nominee (no matter how many pseudonyms they have) The majority of competitions on DUP cap nominations at one or two poems so there's no need to go beyond that.
No DUPLICATES. If someone nominates the same poem the entry will be deleted. If you like it that much wait and vote for it!
Any genre except erotica or pornography. This is a Facebook feature and we must adhere to their guidelines.
BIG CHANGE:
Previous Poem of the Month Hall of Fame members CAN BE NOMINATED ... but a poet may only win once in the time period from November 2017 - December 2018.
Simply put: We want to see a cross section of writers acknowledged.
Any member who is banned or disables their account PRIOR to the win will be automatically disqualified.
Any nominated member who wishes to opt out of the competition may do so by messaging me ( Poem-Worm ). I will contact the person who nominated you and request an alternate nomination.
Nomination Duration is three weeks followed by a week of site voting!
Running list of winners:
November 2017 ... NAAJIR
December 2017 ... POETSPEAK

After your execution
i murdered myself
to avenge you
because somebody
needed to
and i had the element
of surprise

I've always known life as a poker game
Calculating potential by the hand we've been dealt
We're faced with choices, one
After another, with no scale to measure morality
Nor the consequences we're dragged through
Our parents raise us
Injecting us with their own views, perspectives
And values
They force perfection on us,
Dragging us to to whiten our teeth, to force a masterpiece
That wasn't meant to be
I recall the decision when I was seven years old
Evil beckoned from the dark
Corners of my mind
The thoughts that are my deepest secret
And most shameful fear
Almost doing acts that were the symptoms of serial killers
Yet I turned my head, crawled my way
Out of the dark that laughed at my feeble attempts
To breathe light
A walking contradiction,
Dyed hair and piercings,
Combat boots and cigarettes,
But raised in perfection of education
And charisma, social etiquette
As I grew older, my ideals began to different greatly
From those who raised me
I saw the darkness in their hearts, mirroring the heart I could
Have chosen that cold day in September
So I fought, blindly,
Scratching at the hands that fed me
And instead hunting for my own
I hit back to his punches
I stopped listening when she shouted
I became free
The independence, however,
Was not priceless
Guilt plagues my lungs and loneliness
Dances on my ribcage
A young hurricane, created from silver and gold
But stuck in the rainbow of the oil slick
Gifted, they say
Broken, I argue
Naive, he shouts
Wiser, I spit
Dumb, she laughs
Brave, I whisper
Criminal, it murmurs
Rebel, I call

To What Hides 'Round the Corner
From the sullen ground has risen many foul mists, but none have caught the New Year moon.
Its complexion, overfull of cocoa butter
till the case drips in solitary seams.
As nothing has reached that moon, but the howl of the wolves in the mountain,
let’s set our dreams also upon it.
That which we resolve to do,
that which we resolve to feel,
let us aim those arrows into its craters.
And just how the heavens imitate our cry,
that we have perpetuated in the solace of a bed of tears,
by the neon markings that seep through the night,
I know that each tear was counted and amassed in its own constellation.
This next year, our regrets are already encased in a map of astronomy.
New regrets await us in the further birth of stellar orbits
listened to as cable static sourced from the sound of the growing universe.
But happiness still. I'm sure happiness still
awaits us.
At our windowsills, a light crawls like a lady bug up the misty pane.
And it's a new year, a new rising of the sun.
Its complexion, overfull of cocoa butter
till the case drips in solitary seams.

let’s set our dreams also upon it.

When you leave
In the morning
as you are wrapped
Around me
Holding on like I was the prize
As if I were the special one
I can't stop myself
From looking forward
And I see the day
When you will leave
When I am destroyed
And must be rebuilt again
So I stay here
Now
And try to push that day away
as you are wrapped
Around me
Holding on like I was the prize
As if I were the special one
I can't stop myself
From looking forward
And I see the day
When you will leave
When I am destroyed
And must be rebuilt again
So I stay here
Now
And try to push that day away

the sidewalk's secrets
the sun dappled sidewalk listened
as I stomped out
my discontent on it's obliging face
then with a sneer
& a wink
it spoke to me
told me of all
the stories it's heard
as people release their secrets
to the winding streets
the man with the limp
has a fat wife at home
his back broken from her weight
the man's sorrow is heard
then duly noted by the sidewalk
who leads him to a mistress
on the other side of town
a whore
& her clacking stilettos
scream out her anger
at an under paying john
her rage taken out
on the forgiving pavement
who knows this soul well
children skip to my loo
& ring around the rosy
tickles the sidewalk
their mirth contagious
ripples out
from the soles of their shoes
the utter horror
it feels as a step is forever silenced
murder most foul
an all too common occurrence here
then in a somber tone
it tells me it keeps record
of humanities wanderings
for it is the road where all dreams lead
& our path homeward

Tides
I am but water
In my most human state
Waiting to be moved
By the moon
By you
By anything capable
Of changing my shape
...
And
In this precious time
That is the brief moment
Of a life
I have been blessed
By knowing
Such tides
As these
In my most human state
Waiting to be moved
By the moon
By you
By anything capable
Of changing my shape
...
And
In this precious time
That is the brief moment
Of a life
I have been blessed
By knowing

Sleepers Lullaby
Night, Night, close them eyes
If you ever want to see revolutions rise
Fighting to see better days realized
Droughts to mind come from no tears inside
So cry out pain and displeasure til freedom reigns
See your contrived world as it is, an imaginary place
Understand this Knight in you is meant for rescue
Material will avail nor prevail over the spirits that bless you
So let the still that is peace to permeate at will
No hope is the curse of daze sent to destroy promise
Strength can not be bought or sold to unawakened souls
Humility is the weapon of choice to share in grace
So sleep well and fear not sorrows that can not last
letting the drum of heartbeats assure you of everlasting love!

soul journeyer
within the torment
of a poet's soul
is an aged whiskey
mellow & old
it burns going down
then becomes a glowing warmth
get intoxicated on our verse
the spirit of the poet
is laced inside these powerful words
witness our warrior soul
loosed on the page
all the beauty & the ache
our anger a killer
if you're a beginner please refrain
sip the juices of an erotic
giggles, I dare you
after walk a straight line
the lust & love in us so beguiling
our poetry casts a spell,
charmed we succumb
then there are the rare gems
beautiful soul journeyers
the fates witnessed us separate
& saw fit to bring as one
this is your empath family
the gods own chosen
you are gifted to walk
this journey with them
now, until the very end

Lotus imposition
Now into the deep funk of momentum soul
Spins our wheel around time's linear pole
The near miss of dual suns in an orbital accrue
Pythagoras would spit when one mention two,
A tetra helix column now standing in the mist
The fours rivers of Eden all flowing in a twist
13 petaled rose garden shows ornamental flow
Water of noon God seeding maternal water below,
The brazen serpent rod is leaning in Plato's cave
Show's a continuous model, a primeval sine wave
Eve planting seeds on the astral world mountain
An embryonic fruit grown from the holy fountain,
(A pulse of location but with no time duration)
(A movement of mind through a spatial relation)
As the self-embedding fruit tree sows our reality
So the seed base particle wave brings old duality
Infinity with an amplitude, infinity with a breath
Inhale our life existence, exhale the hour of death,
An octave spectrum forming a beam of white light
A decent of spiral fire that is burning into sight
"God is a verb not a noun", reads the book in the attic
Lower realms falling down, more dynamic than static,
A point (.) to a line(I) and then on to expanse(O)
The particle vibration will spin a natural dance
"Lord" as singular while "God" as inclusive
This geometric metaphor rings vibrating music...

Broken Sleep...
That's a constant, that keeps
A contemptuous mental malady
Leavin' me pitifully awoken of sleep
A weakened mind, I find in reality
Oh why this burden keeps herdin'
'The Sheep' I weep, can't count
Days total dazed, lost, I'm amazed
A soul in turmoil, rest, an incessant foil
A weakened mind, I find in reality
Leavin' me pitifully awoken of sleep
A contemptuous mental malady
That's a constant, that keeps...
I need an end to mend this maze
before the Y, Broken Sleep spells CRAZE ...
*Pic. Credit, not mine...unknown
just saw it one day, n loved it n seemed perfect for this. *
