Poetry Contest

Nominate your favorite poem by a DUP artist for November recognition on DUP FaceBook.
Greetings, Fellow Poets!  It's time for our "Poem of the Month" to be featured in the DUP 'Poem of the Month Hall of Fame' and on the official facebook page for November 2017.

You have three weeks nominate no more than two of you favorite poems of another DUP poet!

Please note the following when making nominations:

1. Self nominations are not accepted. The great majority of the competitions here are about spotlighting one's own work on a particular topic or theme.  This is a chance to nominate that poem that you wish you had written but some other great talent here beat you to it.

2. Please limit your nominations to TWO poems. You can nominate a single poem for two different poets; but the nomination maximum remains at TWO per nominee (no matter how many pseudonyms they have)  The majority of competitions on DUP cap nominations at one or two poems so there's no need to go beyond that.

No DUPLICATES. If someone nominates the same poem the entry will be deleted. If you like it that much wait and vote for it!

Any genre except erotica or pornography. This is a Facebook feature and we must adhere to their guidelines.

BIG CHANGE:

Previous Poem of the Month Hall of Fame members CAN BE NOMINATED ... but a poet may only win once in the time period from November 2017 - December 2018.

Simply put: We want to see a cross section of writers acknowledged.

Any member who is banned or disables their account PRIOR to the win will be automatically disqualified.

Any nominated member who wishes to opt out of the competition may do so by messaging me ( Poem-Worm ). I will contact the person who nominated you and request an alternate nomination.

Nomination Duration is three weeks followed by a week of site voting!

the life of poetry

poetry dies one word at a time
while your muse is quietly singing
& you ignore her song
shut it up, bottle it tight
because it's foreign music
notes you don't recognize

until you find yourself slightly swaying
to it's hypnotic beat
with a knowing of the words
as they come alive on the page

a brand new creature
is born into the world
though you can't mother it
from birth it has a life of its own
touching peoples minds
& entering their souls
becoming a part of who they are

this is when poetry's magic happens
when for an instant
someone is captivated
a recogntion of a thought or feeling
it germinates in another poets being
& is given birth to again

then brand new feelings are stirred
as we move one another
a poem at a time

ALPHA AND OMEGA - THE LOST PARADISE

©OxyMoronicMeGLemz

From nothing to something, this world embarked on spinning
Above the clouds, the Eastern Sun rose and hope comes glimmering
Then rays of light started shining, frozen grounds slowly warming
Melted ice hastily streaming and life on Earth begun existing
For eons, there Paradise exist with creatures now most were extinct
Then man was made to inherit the place, perfect without sin
The God of Mercy was filled with empathy, for what He'd seen
And so decides to make a woman to give the man a blessing

“Go on and multiply, this world is yours except for the tree at the middle”
He leaves them to be with the forbidden tree, rich in fruits, red and shiny
But Desire snaked his way thru her heart, by Will she sinned against God
Banished they were and cursed to suffer, afflicted by the thirst of rapacity.
Luxuria, Gula, Avaritia, Icedia, Ira, Invidia, and Supervia had orgy with humanity
And by their descendant's blood upon the ground, so was written history
The land was torn with endless war and beset with plague, famine, and calamity
Hope seemed lost indeed, but salvation came with the Son of the Almighty

With Him, He brought, the seven virtuous angels for man's guidance —
Castitas, Temperantia, Caritas, Industria, Patientia, Humanitas, Humilitas,
Were unleashed to redeem willing souls of their mortal inheritance
To fight the devil's advocate residing in the darkest corner of their hearts
But Greed knows no bound and destroys everything in their grasp
Still coveting more, wanting to possess even those not their own
And when there's nothing left for them to divide and conquer
They dreamed of owning even the sky to be God themselves

Them we called Kings erected castles to make heaven on Earth
Created an army, with swords laced with God, Gold, and Glory
For honor, for loyalty to the nation and religion, so much was sacrificed
Freedom was painted inside the pot at the end of the rainbow dusted with blood
The fight rage on as the collector persist, now dressed as terrorist
To be paid in full of what's due to them, a millennia's worth of debt
We call ourselves the victims of their malice, but are we really innocent?
When as a man, we continue to sin against our neighbors, against nature?

Preachers talks of redemption, articulately quoting verses from the Bible
The paranoids, warn the populace of government conspiracy and Alien invasions
The insane rants prayers for they say that the end is near according to Revelation
While the lot of us wished for miracle and luck to at least put food on the table
We all wanted salvation, for happiness and to live life in comfort
Each of us, dreams of finding that Paradise, to mortal sin we'd lost
We keep on searching everywhere, anywhere our feet could walk
Most failed to find, a few did, but we never believed...

That the Paradise we've lost was never really lost
Carefully look at your reflection and there you'll see
Staring back is the doe-eyed Antler patiently waiting
For us to find and released him from the snake trap
To deliver the message from God that he kept alive:
“Denounce the seven Cardinals and make room
For the Virtuous Angels to give you guidance
Have Faith, Hope, and Love... the keys to heavens above.”

AMEN...

Authors' Note

Antlers represents the Tree of Life, The Messenger of God and the Keeper of Knowledge, They are the symbol of Life, Rebirth, Fertility, Verility, Courage and Endurance.

Men sinned when they consumed fruits from the forbidden tree..
Little did they know, that when God banished them from Paradise, they carry within them the seed and there inside of them it grew, unknown to them, building paradise inside their soul waiting for them to get home.

The Meth Diaries~Days three through six

today is day six
& I feel a great amount of shame
I didn't make it today without using

i'm down from a line every other day
to a line once a week
still I have to quit completely
I am lying to my family
breaking their trust
& it's causing me a lot of pain

I struggled through day three & four
my emotions were all over the place
angry, sad & depressed
on day four my pride was broken
as I chased it & was denied

days of lethargy
slept a lot on day three
all the suffering for nothing
now it begins again

just because I couldn't shake a nightmare
a demon drug dream
you know the kind
where you're doing it & can't get high

I woke up chasing it this morning
I told myself shake it off
but I couldn't I had paid for it the day before
told the person when it was brought
never mind I don't want it
then those damn demons got to me
said you're getting burned

after doing it
with the sting of failure
I really know what it's like to get burned
I did it to myself

no phone with me this morning walking
no watch, no clock, no time piece stalking
just Sun in sky and Moon too waning
the clouds have left there's no more raining

a breeze with sounds of seaside waking
offshore a ship with anchor shaking
its waves of noise on waves of water
my mind absorbing all I've caught a

breath of now in cosmic glory
a glimpse of one, the only story
to live, to know, to feel compassion
for each and all, we're just a flash in

the endless depths of plasma ocean
we're born, we die, between there's motion
we rise, we fall, we come together
we leave, we breath, we live forever

we change, exchange, arrange becoming
more and more each other, one in
sensations felt as we each journey
from where we are to where we learn the

secret hidden right before us
we're one with waves that crash and roar as
a breeze with sounds of seaside waking
is filled with noise of anchor shaking

the clouds have left there's no more raining
the Sun in sky with Moon that's waning
no watch, no clock, no time piece stalking
no phone with me this morning walking

< her dreaming of the dance >

 to dance
to dance the flurry of the stage again
 to dance away the night
 the darkness of the night
 and of the future
 that has come

 her eyes
 they're off again
 this old girl sits
 her bottle never far away
 below her hand
 beside the chair
 beside the chair it sits
 it helps
 with dreams
 with dreaming of the dance
 her journey to the crown
 the crown
the flurry of the stage again
 to dance
 to dance this dark away
to dance away the one who took
 who took away the dance
the one who's never far away
 who's never far away
 her eyes
 they're off again
 the man
the hard way to the crown
 her dream
 her dreaming of the dance
 her bottle
 never far away

Psalms Of The Gifted

she
an apprentice
of infinity
an apostle
of the esoteric
shearing open
cosmic papyrus
to have
her holo-book
heiroglyphed in
sacred dust

he
 a page turned
by winds of fate
superimposed
as rock
unturned on Gaia
rediscovered
in several chapters
through
shared conversations
with God
as sole witness

they
swing like
pendulums
between days of
future's past
searing away
barriers
of common tongues
embarking upon
exodus
through acts of
selflessness
relinquishing judgement
distinguishing
with clarity
what IT is to be
sacrificed by
elemental fire

entropy reigns
souls are
staked upon
the celestial pyre
burning before
the pantheon
lanterns illuminate
darkness
of the immediate
names are
spoken in
kindred ciphers
as whispered
echoes
graciously sewn
within
epochs of eternity

transcendence
moves in mists
of exhales
from lung to lung
through
tribal breathing
remembering yet
another life
another tale
told
in another realm
as time
marches on
through passings
of what is
reaped

Mississippi cry

Lone
Ol dirt road
Walkin on away
On a lone
Ol dirt road
Walkin on away
They say I don't belong
Well I better go away

Lightnin and thunder
Crash
Above my head
I feel like sleepin
In cold grave
Than walkin this gravel road
My feet done bled

Somethin
Is in behind me
Telling me I can't stay
I can't die
Won't let me
Guess I gotta walk away

No mo workin
No mo churchin
No mo sweet tea
Gone have to do without me

I'm alone
Lone ol dirt road
Walkin on away
Say I'm never gone belong
Well I better go away

I hear em comin
I hear em comin
For me
Faster I start walkin alone
Gotta leave my home
I can't stay
I better go away

Beautiful Witch

This is the story of a beautiful witch
Searching for love, her passion so rich

In a place of magic across a velvet sky
Lived a young lady with dark smoky eyes
She looked in a mirror, skin color of milk
& before her face fell black hair of silk.
She wished for a man whom she felt the need
Should love her back & fulfill her every need
So she held her rituals every night
Crafting her potions to make it just right.

She saw him coming on a sleepy afternoon
When he arrived long after soon
She knew it was him she'd been waiting for
He walked up to her but didn't know what for
Her eyes turned to crystal & led him into trance
Staring deeply & hypnotized him with a haunting glance.
She gave him her potion called Spanish Fly
In hopes that her love would get a reply.
She had placed him under her deep love spell
Forever & ever & all is well.

The Depths of Her Heart

When I look into her eyes, I can feel the breeze of ocean tides change as her eyelashes extend beyond the shore. The lush green hues are sparkling and bright, reflecting more than a pretty picture, but giving me the longing to swim in her arcane sea, only to get lost in a world that surpasses the depths of her secluded heart.
