Poetry Contest

Write your own eulogy or obituary.
I know this may sound a little macabre to some of you but I thought that it would be an interesting thing to try writing. I was talking about random things with my mother and boyfriend and I thought about it being a good poetry competition. It can be either an obituary or a eulogy, which ever you prefer. You can write about things you've really done or things you are planning on doing, or things you're hoping you accomplish during your lifetime.

RULES

-One poem per person.

-You can write it in whatever style you want.

-Can be either an obituary or an eulogy, and please be sure to say which it is. You can not write one of both.

-Please have fun.

-If you have any questions, please message me.

Oh and above all, please keep negative comments to yourself. If you do not like the idea for a competition please do not voice your opinion rudely, simply do not enter a poem into it.

Please and thank you.

-Sincerely, Paige Rider

Eulogy~

So now you're all gathered here in one place today,
your dresses, your suits and your ties.
I'm guessing you came because I'm going away,
and NOW you wish to say goodbye.
I spent so many nights alone while I was here,
Endlessly searching for a friend.
Somebody that could help this old World disappear,
But most of you refused to bend.
Your lives were just so busy getting nowhere fast,
But it's okay, I understand.
You couldnt see that nothing here is meant to last,
and, after all, I'm but a man.
I made mistakes and did some things I cant undo,
Now I'm afraid it is too late.
I cant turn back or try to make amends with you,
Cant swallow pride I never ate.
I can only speak to you by words in my farewell,
I really hope you'll hear them said.
When you get up to leave and hear those ringing bells,
dont cry, just laugh and raise your head.
Take with you a lesson that I learned in due time,
No prisoners are held in War.
You'll fight and fight and you will try to hold the line,
But we are all just casualties,
Nobody, ever in time, has, or will, be offered more.
So take it as it comes and smile as it goes,
Cause it all seems to go with haste.
Love all you can, while you can, cause trust me, I know
someday you'll have no Time to waste.
Someday all of those things you love and understand
will fade, and you'll have to leave, too.
Cause, after all you've done, you're still only a Man,
and Life ALWAYS collects the debt it's due.

Now i lay me
down to sleep
sway the judge
her thinkings weak
bring in satan
to feed her fears
maybe jesus
to dry the tears
but

she had none.

EULOGY

As you know I was Kitty's best friend

We mourn her death which was in her eyes

Long in coming

She suffered for many years

With illnesses that Doctors did not yet know

How to heal or even how to comfort

Her death was accidental

Perhaps a good accident for her

But now we must go on and remember her

For the life she fought one day at a time

As you know she had a childhood that was not ideal

Parents who had seen horrors and transmitted their pain

It is wonderful how youth and strength

Can overcome all until middle age

When some run out of the rage

That fuels us and keeps us running for more

So please remember that Kitty tried

Failed and tried and tried again

Little to show for it at the end

We enter this earth with nothing

We leave it the same way

Nevertheless those who knew Kitty

Loved her and will miss her this day.

Most of his Earthly life,
he lived it
the way of others.
That boy had spirit.
With his rhyming-words,
he tried to please
and
it killed him.
We gotta love him for that.
Jesus, take care of Brother-Poet Strider.
Amen.

Eulogy

With heavy hearts we are gathered here today
Goodbye is the hardest word of all to say
So many people touched by her life
So much now lost, a daughter, sister and wife

Above all she was a cherished friend
Giving her love freely until the end
A perfect person we know she was not
Flawed but true, we saw what we got

As we mourn on this day it gives us comfort to know
She did not fear death, in peace she let go
Her memory we keep and cherish with pride
We remember the joy and forget the tears cried

No light in this world ever truly dies
Destined to return with a new set of eyes
We know Bec will come back with wings made of gold
A life that is new and a soul that is old

As we lay her body down for eternal sleep
Our voices become too shaky to speak
With her smile forever in our mind
We carry on with this life unkind

We believe that one day we will meet again
Until then we say goodbye dear friend.

My Obituary (based on some truth and lot's of fluff)

Miki M Dancer, Writer, Hippie, Redneck, Psychic, Alien, Chef, Traveler, Holistic medicine doctor,  Activist for marijuana legalization, gay rights, animals, crazy people, and anarchy.
Died on Sunday night.

Miki was anti-establishment and protested most everything.
She joined Green Peace and PETA in college and then protested the protesters within the org's. She became a fan of Anarchy and tribal theory in her early twenties.

The loves in her life were numerous. She loved loving but hated monotony (and perhaps monogamy) and had an insatiable attraction to intelligent people, both men and women.

She specialized in thinking, theorizing, pondering, growing plants, giving useless advice to who people who didn't want it and starting arguments.

Miki was the first person ever to incite riots on a global scale and she wrote many books on the subject, some instructional.

Miki hated the heat and loved thunderstorms, preferred cooking on an open flame, and thought good music could never be too loud.

Air conditioning was her favorite invention and she loved to laugh, especially at nothing and for no reason.

Miki has asked as a final request that you all write to your MP or congressman and ask for a ban on placing bans on anything else, she loved freedom more than anything else, mental freedom especially and now she is free.

Miki also specified before her death that flowers would be a waste, stating that there were strays - both four legged and two who are alive and could use food more than a dead person could use flowers.

From Grace to grace

Little flower, child of the earth
Lies here now in gentle repose
Her face once, wrinkled, smoothed
No more sorrow no more tears

She had lived a life
To her was the fullest
Believing in goodness
Although at times misplaced

She had loved well
Given her all
To those she loved
She was much beloved

Grace has gone to glory
She will indeed wake
When the trumpet calls
At the Dawn of the Day.

Eulogy of a failure

Welcome to the funeral of your dreams.
You may place your candles before the casket, but please refrain from sobbing until the burial.

Here lies, aspiration and dedication,
perseverance and commitment.
All the blood, sweat and tears of years of diligence, wasted.
What you sought to be is now history.
What you ought to be is still a mystery.
With nothing more than depression to fall back into, you are fucked.
A gross affirmation to the dull, unrewarding life you've led.
Your toil achieved less than your desires craved and you slumped, in your impotency, to self preservation.
Discarding your soul to exist as nobody, once again, was brave of you.

And so we bid farewell to one of your coveted futures,
before family and friends and whatever power you may, now, believe in.
Forget, here, now and forever, what you though you could be and be reborn - deprived, into mediocrity.
Despondently.
