My Grief, Mine Alone
I want desperately
to write about you
To tell the world
how wonderful you were
and how lucky,
anyone who had the
Privilege
of knowing you,
would be
My thoughts…
won’t settle down
and let me
pen my feelings
I’m too afraid
if I do the flood gates
holding back my tears
will tear loose their hinges
and the tsunami of grief
will drown my soul
to write about you
To tell the world

Neglected
Observations have become second nature
It wears on my conscience to consume it
Soft rain falling inside this spiritual theater
Why is it you doubt these words I commit?
Promises are best kept with everlasting love
The raven has become smitten with the dove
Balance is found on a road where wisdom lies
Before this spiderweb snares unknowing flies
Sacrifices are required to dine at their table
Wealth is only a formality in being accepted
Unlocking darkness inside this twisted fable
Is to be content while often being neglected ...

Because the multiverse theory
says there are
infinite worlds,
and we exist
in some form
in each

arrogantly
that a version of

wafts through all
space and time
in a philosophical
reduction
that we call:
quantitative parsimony

Giving thanks this holiday season
Some of you knew
Others didn’t
In early January 2024
I was diagnosed with having a/fib
Atrial Fibrillation
How could that be ?
I never felt the symptoms particularly
Yet it was
Blood thinners immediately prescribed
Other heart drugs too
Then
Complications from drugs
More doctors
Lots of tests
Terrible interrupted sleep
Peeing like no tomorrow
Then
I started to listen to my doctors
Also to myself
Decisions to be...

This year I'm giving up shoes and social media -- just kidding
This new year I want to be a better person,
so I'll do some unattainable shit like
vow to piss away less time ,
to run more,
overthink less,
drink more water,
and eschew single-use plastic like it was
crawling with enviro cooties
and maybe I'll give up

and Taylor Swift,
and my argument,
that a taco is a
motherfucking sandwich
(you know it is)
maybe I'll give up...

A Merry Metal Xmas
Merry Christmas, to all the poets/poetesses here at DU. This year was only the beginning, folks. Seems arriving here has put some wind in the sails of my creative journey. That was my Christmas gift, I received from my fellow writers here at DU. You all helped me rise again like a glorious phoenix. Or some other town in Arizona. lol. Different Spin
Too many faces are only memories now
Not so clear anymore on all the stories
It seems time closed the door somehow
Running off the fumes of passing glories
Innocent witness being lead to slaughter
Blood laced misery saturates murky water
Silence eats slowly on words never said
Guilt suffocates happiness into despair
It’s been a life sentence inside this head
Unable to blink while sinister eyes stare
Defeated demons will often return again
Same blueprint hidden in a different spin

Deeper Underground I Go
I can’t count the number
of poems I’ve expelled
beyond the busted seams
of experience
As if those seams could keep
the poems from my voice
How many emotions
were galactic tapestries
unraveling from a solar plexus
storing so many lives
How many verses reflect
the present
versus the ghosts
of a former century
And yet,
deeper underground
I go
The trick to navigating
the bowels of the beast
is not succumbing
to illusion over...
of poems I’ve expelled
