Winter Poems
#winter
Winter poems about the coldest season of the year, December to February in the northern hemisphere and June to August in the southern hemisphere. Winter brings short dark days and stillness, as nature sleeps. Here you'll find poems about the beauty of the winter months, and also poems about dealing with cold and challenging weather.
Long Mynd
(The Long Mynd is a large high Shropshire moor)
It is wintery on the moor,
birds on turbulent air
from across hills scream
their black presence
chilling moor and heath
March roars a prelude
for gentle April blossoms
When laburnum hedges
stolen from estates
gild twisting lanes and pastures
Long Mynd ponies
wild and free
ignore this scene
shelter beside heather groves
defying winds from Wales and west.

LATE WINTER
November passed and I was so happy
December passed I was so happy
Thinking we were in the clear
By February the sun should be sneaking around the horizon
The birds coming back to us to sing hallelujah
It is spring!
We should be stripping the furs and the weight off
Come February
Here is February
A blizzard and three storms in two weeks
Are you kidding me?
Christmas and the holidays are now histories
Ginormous flakes of snow fill the air
We can never see the ground
Yay...it wants to keep coming down
My eyes hurt from...

Nature's Kiss
By morning glow on bridge and stream
Arrives the light of new day’s bloom
The Vernal looms, or so it seems
Intent to birth forth from her womb
The frozen hills and woods rejoice
The sun returns, the earth to warm
This morning drowns out winter’s voice
In righteousness, the world transformed
The victory of springtime, nigh
As foe of warmth shall melt away
The forest creatures, wakened, sigh
As if to God almighty, pray;
But, peace of winter shall be missed!
Where is the north wind’s holy place?
It’s...

Two Worlds Colliding
Twilight looms ahead
Another day is over
Sun sets in the distance
I remember you
And wonder about your day
Is it sunny or windy?
Are you feeling warm or cold?
Two worlds colliding
East and west meeting somewhere
Another horizon different from mine
While I gaze at the moon and stars
And dreams away on warm summer nights
You're waking to a new dawn
Embracing a new day and welcoming the warmth of the sun on your frame
And the occasional chill that comes in winter time
While I lay sleeping and weaving dreams in my sleep ...
Another day is over

Are you feeling warm or cold?

WINTER WARMTH
Have you ever wrapped
your cold hands around a hot
glass of buttered rum?
•
Have you ever coated
your lungs in the honey
of her opium?
•
She's caramelized
at the edge and soft inside:
a lustrous sticky bun
•
Between her sizzling touch,
whispered breath, and wicked taste—
take me out, I'm done!
your cold hands around a hot
glass of buttered rum?
•
Have you ever coated
your lungs in the honey
of her opium?
•
She's caramelized
at the edge and soft inside:
a lustrous sticky bun

take me out, I'm done!

Sunrise Mist
The sunlight falls like a mist
An ancient waterfall among trees
A chilly morning with a hint of sun
An early dawn horizon.
The garden stands still
Winter
The leaves have vanished
Leaving branches empty
Skeletal reminders of a distant summer

summer rejoice
It will only get some worse
With a climate so adverse,
Wonder when we’ll see the light
To our joy and full delight,
Sure I won’t complain again
When the sun will burn my brain,
I just long for days to come
Until summer has begun,
Hoping it will heat our days
And the winter will disgrace,
I wish to come off my shell
and start ringing out my bell,
screaming top out of my voice
hail the sun and then rejoice.

i was wrong
Well it seemed like I was wrong
To start to sing the summer song,
Cold and ice will come this way
And the sun won’t make our day,
It will show above the cloud
And will leave us in astound,
How it can’t convey the heat
Leaving us so incomplete,
Guess we’ll have to wait a bit
Till this air will have to quit.

Radio Follies
Good evening, listeners.
It’s your Delilah Deli here at six
dee-livering the local news.
So sit a spell with me please do.
With all the rain we’ve had,
the welfare of our park flowers
has me in doubt.
For here in Danvers,
there’s just the one park,
and the flowers, there’s only
two: one yellow, one blue.
So we need to be diligent,
and learn the drill, ‘cause
Danvers Park & Recreation
( there’s only the one ) has a
slogan; now say...
