Winter Poems
#winter
Winter poems about the coldest season of the year, December to February in the northern hemisphere and June to August in the southern hemisphere. Winter brings short dark days and stillness, as nature sleeps. Here you'll find poems about the beauty of the winter months, and also poems about dealing with cold and challenging weather.
winter grieves
the light
sorrowing
and shortens,
it's deepest
silence
falling like
leaves,
see the
mournful
branches
hanging bare,
but come
next spring
your heart
will be
full again,
when the
warmth
charms you
again.

Black Tree Forest
Tha path into the black tree forest
can hear a lost soul's silent cry.
The trees, black entanglements
of vacant limbs climb towards a pale sky.
Black bark configurations.
Excite the shadowed imagination.
The black trees absorb despairing
thoughts and worries.
Awaiting the sugared innocence
of those first snow flurries.
Here, like a fallen leaf,
the heart's decayed foliage is quietly buried.
can hear a lost soul's silent cry.

The First Snow
When the first snow falls
Everything becomes silent
Mother Nature purifies the land
Crystalizing life with her cold cover

summer past
too quietly,
you have
been
stripped
my love,
you have
lost
your clothes
of green,
of color,
now cool
hands prevail
over your
beating heart.

Winter Is Coming
Winter is coming,
a whisper in the air,
sharp as the bite of frost,
cloaking the trees in white.
Leaves drop in silence,
their rustling hushed
beneath a blanket of snow,
like secrets buried deep.
The sun fades early,
casting long shadows,
cool breaths curl like smoke,
and lights twinkle in the dusk.
Children bundle up tight,
racing through icy streets,
giggling as snowflakes swirl,
each one a tiny wonder,
catching dreams on their tongues.

A Winter Night
Silently rolling still
'Neath cast planetary night
Breathes the crystalline horizon
Under ages of eon
Befallen crescent eclipse
Barren cold barrels
As frost planes sweep
Freezing with a touch
Where the earthen gathers
From ether to dust
Stopping waterways
Like time in space afar
Courses meander
Between the deep
Unfolding suspense
Traveling distant
Atmospheric pass
As silhouette and shadow ...

They Come Back Through
a psalm for Samhain
They come back through on Halloween…
The line between the living and the dead
is frailest come evensong, when light is seen
to die beyond the farms, and bread
is broken one last time before the winter sheen
outspreads across the roof of each homestead.
They come back through on Halloween,
the sailors lost when campfires
became confused with lighthouses,
the children dead by violence,
the battle-scared and lost, all echoes of whence
we go when forced to cross the line between.
They come back...

Frozen Shores of A Winter Forgotten
Upon the frozen shores of winters yore
Where Time forgetteth how to warm the earth
The winds do wail, as once they did before
Yet bring no thaw, nor touch the soil's dearth
No footstep mars the snow’s unbroken crest
Nor sound disturbs the seas of crystal still
Here winter reigneth, cold and long suppress'd
With naught but silence ‘neath its frosted will
No kindly sun doth rise to wake the morn
Nor springtide's breath to stir the lifeless air
The world, it seemeth, by all hope forlorn
In icy bonds, doth slumber long and bare ...
Where Time forgetteth how to warm the earth
The winds do wail, as once they did before
Yet bring no thaw, nor touch the soil's dearth
No footstep mars the snow’s unbroken crest
Nor sound disturbs the seas of crystal still

With naught but silence ‘neath its frosted will
No kindly sun doth rise to wake the morn
Nor springtide's breath to stir the lifeless air
The world, it seemeth, by all hope forlorn
In icy bonds, doth slumber long and bare ...

the normal
green leaves
breathing
for their
momentarily
lifetime,
never seeing
they
are slain
by more
colorful
counterparts,
brilliant
disguises,
new visions
and different
directions,
to try
valiantly their
escaping,
well before
the long
cold breath
of winter.

Have you had your break today?
A man by the name of Bruce D. Lipps was the owner of a McDonald's on the outskirts of Duluth, Minnesota.
Sometime in January 1996, he was driving North on Interstate 35 when he crashed his car.
There was a decent snowfall occurring with icy conditions.
His vehicle had crossed the median and into the southbound lanes before hitting a guardrail.
Bruce was able to climb out of the burning wreckage, pulled off all of his burning clothes and stood naked in the middle of the road.
In a matter of minutes, Bruce was run over and killed by an oncoming...

Cold Burn
Walked through the golden harvest of corn.
Beneath descending sun.
Fully knowing the winter of the mind
would soon be born.
That first stark ivory would stun.
Before I knew inner inferno's contain icicles too.
The cold burn left the clues.
His eyes were electric heat.
His words a brutal snow.
His smile a warmth so sweet.
His touch, the absence of tomorrow.
I walked the maze through the piercing sorrow.
Beneath descending sun.
