Winter Poems
#winter
Winter poems about the coldest season of the year, December to February in the northern hemisphere and June to August in the southern hemisphere. Winter brings short dark days and stillness, as nature sleeps. Here you'll find poems about the beauty of the winter months, and also poems about dealing with cold and challenging weather.

Fonder A Care
Fonder a care of frost in the air
Embossing willow and crystal dew
Yonder where echoes fonder a care
In silent woods where copses sleep
Listening to the wrinkles of time

Crystal Winter Sky
The day moves so slowly
Frozen in it's breath
Sun goes down so lonely
In the distant frosty west
Cold, malevolent winds are blowing
All hope has gone away
While fading life is flowing
Into a wintry, snowy haze
Icicles frozen in time
A snow angel spreads her wings to fly
Church bells and gongs chime
Hands reach out into a crystal winter sky
Frozen in it's breath
Sun goes down so lonely
In the distant frosty west
Cold, malevolent winds are blowing
All hope has gone away
While fading life is flowing
Into a wintry, snowy haze
Icicles frozen in time
A snow angel spreads her wings to fly
Church bells and gongs chime
Hands reach out into a crystal winter sky

don’t know how, or why
saw a butterfly drifting erratically past the window
in early february
and you said that’s not
possible of
course that it might quite well have been late january
but it definitely caught my eye

February Frost
The oak trees in winter
into the painted grey skies
ghosts of the midwinter fires
flames of darkness, touching down on earth
the purest water of the black lake
the great cold death brought forth

Frosty Mornings
Sun shiny golden
Days brightness turning to snow
Storms havoc creates.
February flies
Into Marches windy wishes
For Springs returning.
For now nature brims
Baleful ice frosted mornings
Magic by arctic.

I’m cold
in a dressing gown over my clothes most
of the time in the house during winter
saves putting on the heating of course we
have the occasional visitor but
darling I don’t care what they’re thinking

Coffee Haiku, a Cycle
Cup of coffee left.
On low wall outside office.
Collecting raindrops.
Two days pass, a third.
Coffee cup remains, sat there.
Is it now more rain?
A light winter frost.
It glazes leaves and walkways.
Coffee cup remains, sat there.
On low wall outside office.
Collecting raindrops.
Two days pass, a third.
Coffee cup remains, sat there.
Is it now more rain?
A light winter frost.
It glazes leaves and walkways.
Coffee cup remains, sat there.

Winter Luminescence
Whisp of cold air
Flying flakes free
Ice upon my hair
Falling to my knees
Coming of twilight
Sitting in snow
Between day and night
Wait for stars to show
Shine without heat
Cold to the bone
Freezing my feet
For winter has shown
Though without dread
In the frozen glade
With naught but leaves dead
In bliss I wade
Flying flakes free
Ice upon my hair
Falling to my knees
Coming of twilight
Sitting in snow
Between day and night
Wait for stars to show
Shine without heat
Cold to the bone
Freezing my feet
For winter has shown
Though without dread
In the frozen glade
With naught but leaves dead
In bliss I wade

Sun Blindness.
The snow carpets everything.
And I can't see.
It's so bright.
The white permeates existence and shines oh so brilliantly.
Blotched here and there with the thrown up refuse of passing cars.
Dirty grey stains on the blinding incandescent light.
My eyes hurt.
As I see the silhouette of a magpie.
Chasing away a mangy old fox who won't survive the winter.
And I'm always tired.
Walking on.
This slippery ice.
I always catch myself.
Before I fall.
But,
My scarf is falling down. ...

January
January's twilight horizon was a striking tangerine pink.
The cold brittle hours seem to turn agonizingly slow.
Soul searching with way too much time to think.
Frigid air preserves the stark milk white snow.
The sun and my heart struggle in their morning ascent.
The enigma of despair is disguised in many forms.
Questioning life where the road is unknown and bent.
Answers buried in the ravage of mental storms.
I imagine the soft warmth of spring sun on my face.
Hope prevails despite winter's brutal little death's. ...

Frigid Sky
Time is passing by and slowly
Losing all its breath
Sun is going down so lonely
In the frosty, distant west
Cold nasty winds are blowing
All the hopes fade away
While life is freezing
Into a snowy, powdery haze
Within a frozen moment
Into a crystal winter sky
Memories are melting
Tears open up my eyes
Soon salvation
Will bring a long-awaited end
Reaching primordial creation
Uniting with you, my old friend
Losing all its breath
Sun is going down so lonely
In the frosty, distant west
Cold nasty winds are blowing
All the hopes fade away
While life is freezing
