Sacred Waters
I do so long to know
the ways of the wise Pueblo
all these secrets they unveil
along every bare sagebrush trail
Carving this poetry into the hills
doing what their spirit then wills
high above this field below
with its patchwork of icy snow
For there is harmony in the breeze
carried down from mountained trees
filling the wintered desert air
with a symphony beyond compare
As I make my lone steady way
on this ordinary holy day
to these hot sacred springs
in search of any healing each...

Pools
They are buried deep
like the most cherished
of secrets
kept cool by the stone
that does surround
so far below ground
a most placid place
to gather up thoughts
sort out feelings
beneath these low ceilings
the perfect time
for confessional rhyme
delving ever deeper
inside of a versifying mind
wondering what I will find
like the most cherished
of secrets
kept cool by the stone
that does surround
so far below ground
a most placid place
to gather up thoughts
sort out feelings
beneath these low ceilings
the perfect time

By the Summer Pond
The clear clean water laps
the grassy shore
always promising more
than just a refreshing dip
As the sun has fun
warming the upper layers
leaving the deep depths
chilly and alone
Leaving me on my own
to sit upon the grass
capture all that will pass
safe within a poem
While the words roam
all across my mind
allowing me to find
the way to rhyme
Taking my sweet time
to dip deep my pen
shaded in the glen
by the summer pond
the grassy shore
always promising more
than just a refreshing dip
As the sun has fun
warming the upper layers
leaving the deep depths

Leaving me on my own
to sit upon the grass
capture all that will pass

Ride the Tide
The morning begins once again
as this frothy water recedes
once again it concedes
to her lunar pull
Eventide
So the tide flows
to fill in this lonely bay
sharing all it so dares say
finally reach its high water mark
as this frothy water recedes
once again it concedes
to her lunar pull
Eventide
So the tide flows
to fill in this lonely bay
sharing all it so dares say
finally reach its high water mark

Still Water
I want to be this
feel the serene bliss
of ever still water
not facing the tide
not being denied
by all of life with its flow
for I seek to truly be
as patient as the sea
yet still hide my depths
keep my sunken secrets
drown my regrets
while my glassy surface reflects
the balm of an innermost calm
feel the serene bliss
of ever still water
not facing the tide
not being denied

Elementals
Funny how they do conspire
beginning first with primal fire
to burn the bramble brush.
Until I feel the chilling rush
of a falling autumn breeze
resonate in these painted trees.
Right before more cold rains
invoke long forgotten pains;
this reawakening hurt
resurrected from barren dirt.

Lonely Fjord
The deep waters are still
each finally full of its fill
of an ever silent mystery
always rewriting their history
Grey granite craggy cliffs
hold on to their riffs
unable to truly let go
of all the tribulation they know
Yet still there is a peace
when the violent winds cease
a total sense of calm
as soothing as any balm
For a wisdom forever old
hides beneath this water cold
my only inner truth
kept innocent since my youth
How the truest secrets of my days
go well beyond these blues...

Swash
It now captures the sound
that does so surround
all of me
when I am near water
Any such body will do
a stream
a lake
an ocean as well
The wet swoosh of the swell
as it is splashed
the silence now dashed
by this aural crescendo
Having no need of innuendo
saying what it has to say
in a most elemental way
echoing something primordial
Harkening me back in time
through the miracle of rhyme ...

Pebbles of the Rain
The clear pebbles of the rain are moving across the landscapes" ~ Mary Oliver
The pebbles of the rain
always make it plain
so very obvious
the beauty of water
Just ask the sea otter
as she swims about
having no doubt
as to the state of things
Or try those with wings
while each bird sings solo
bathing so jubilant
in the marble birdbath
It is not hard to do the math
reach this conclusion
with no need for allusion
since the case is clear
Like this salty tear
as it tickles...

Myst and Stone
While I sail off of the coast
I seek to make the most
of this sacred time alone
bear witness to myst and stone
For I have traveled many days
forsaken many pious ways
just find myself again
armed only with my pen
All the lonely years before
were precursors to my score
early drafts of this inward write
penned again before daylight
But why does the truth lie
adrift in these tears I do cry
riding helpless on the tide
of everything I have denied
So, I once more sign this confession

Cascade
It stands before me
this continuous showering
a most silvery flow
taking its destined leap
Filling the air with mist
loosening every fist
with a cooling calm
that lightens the day
Such elegance here
this parabolic arc
lighting now a spark
in this dark poetic mind
Allowing me to find
the words
the lines
the ample stanzas
To contain this volume
hear this volume
drowning now out
all my suburban doubt
this continuous showering
a most silvery flow
taking its destined leap

Brook
It is the time
between times
between seasons
having no need of reasons
As the brook swells
a melange of clarity
with a subtle silver
as it meanders soft
Carrying my dreams aloft
down the hillside
leaving behind all pride
on its way to the sea
Once again reminding me
in a way simply minding me
quenching so much more
than a parched imagination
As I hear the faint trickle
my ear feels the tickle
of a subtle whisper
disguised in an autumn rhyme
between times
between seasons
having no need of reasons
As the brook swells
a melange of clarity
with a subtle silver
as it meanders soft
Carrying my dreams aloft
down the hillside
leaving behind all pride
on its way to the sea
Once again reminding me
