profundity of kitty litter
one of the most profound things she ever said in my presence
had nothing (& everything) to do with life
my little sister is a wealth of unexpected knowledge
but this statement has always stuck in my mind
we were sharing a house at the time
splitting household chores & expenses
among them...4 cats between us
she came home one day with a new kind of kitty litter
scoopable...which wasn't a thing until then
I watched as she filled the box
then frowned when she pulled out a soup ladle
placing it neatly in a jar beside the pan ...

The Days I Remember
I remember the smell of rain on asphalt
The gentle caress of the summer breeze
The sweet taste of fruits so ripe
The music that was your laughter
I miss the happiness in your eyes
when home still welcomed us

Happy Birthday to #9
I do not know, as yet, if you have heard
about the poet who rules the night
with chiseled stanzas and surpassing word,
like the sort that might give werewolves delight.
He champions the old and gothic whimsey
like Edgar Allan Poe, or some old ghost,
whose haunting voice is not weak or flimsy
like some daytime T.V. talk show host.
Oh, the time has come for all to witness
the genius of my nocturnal thought
and glorious linguistic fitness...
the kind, you know, that just can't be bought.
But hold! The bells have...

Her One Last Chance To Finally Get Some Sleep
My
sister
suffered from
insomnia
so much that she got
desperate enough to
strip dow, put on a robe and
follow a hot stud into his
apartment. And it must have worked for
she woke up the next day still in his bed.

Christmas
I remember the Christmas lights the best
decorating our tree with dazzling colors
so shiny next to the tinsel
the brightly wrapped packages
and my dreams of what would be awaiting me Christmas morning
I would watch all night waiting for Santa to come
bringing gifts for me and my sisters
I could barely stand the wait
until then we baked Christmas cookies
and made lists for the man himself
my dad was my favorite part of the season
he loved Christmas and would always go out of his way
to make it beautiful for us

Aftermath
The sky is deliciously clear,
a hundred white irises stare down on this,
this dilapidated Eden, this night
where the owl rings clear and the smoke billows steady
from corners of an upturned, chill coloured mouth
pouring out those cups of tears I've been carrying for my sisters,
I don't let on the barrel is heavy,
I don't let on I have no second vessel,
instead I sit on the porch and sing
quietly to the Moon
imagining I could still talk to you,
recognising there were so many tears when I could've
that even ten sisters couldn't carry...

The Hug
It was her wedding day,
and I caught her licking the casserole dish.
She hadn't noticed that a tiny bit had fallen
leaving a stain in the middle of the neckline of her gown.
I pointed at it, as her head slowly looked down,
"Oh no," she said, grabbing a damp paper towel.
"Don't worry." I replied, as I removed a heart-shaped pin
from my blouse and pinned it over the spot on her wedding gown.
"The wedding is over, no need to worry about it now." I said.
She blushed then laughed as she gave me a sisterly hug...

A Voice In Each Of Their Heads
A voice
in each of
their heads
made those sisters strip
down and jog naked
on a local beach
in front
of others
right there.

Ghosts
So now that I'm "dead" will you say a few words to me? Or are we pretending that ghosts don't exist either?

What We Were Able To Tell From Her Postcard
We know
that in the
city
of San Francisco,
a new beginning
had started in the
life of
my sister

Your Friend Conned You Into Doing It... Right?

Wait Until Mom And Dad See You In These Pics, Sis!
Judy stripped, got in the water
and splashed in there with her one best friend Tim
before he allowed himself to grab her
arm and give Judy one hot kiss after
another before they saw Jennifer
shooting some pics of her sister
standing in the water with him.
