Everyday
Everyday, it's wake up, walk, make breakfast, be at the whim of my drunk sister's every command (although I have to block her number because I can't fulfill all of them), talk to friends throughout the day, clean if my chronic fatigue allows for it, write or read if my brain isn't too fogged, etc.
I can't get myself to do much. I'm too drained from dealing with toxic family members. I'm lucky when I can get away from them, but other times, I'm not too lucky.
I'm still not sure of how I haven't fainted yet. Definitely don't have the Instagram worthy lifestyle although I'm...

How Poetry ate my day
It started with just a few breadcrumbs
Tasty morsels that led me tentatively out the door
just a little farther….
looking back nervously at my Task List
Just one more taste
and then I’ll go back
He pulled up all smiles and sweetness
saying here’s a Special Something I just know you’ll like...
But – All the Things – what about the Things I’m supposed to do?
I’ll serve you just what you need to get started, he said
I’ll have you back in a jiffy, he said
and with a glance over my shoulder at Responsibility
I said Ok, just for a...

the books
standing
orderly
in their
shelves,
each with
their own
identity,
each day
some travel,
but come
morning,
they are
all
once again
quiet and
at home.

a fable
A fable
I flew high, but it was hot, my wings were tired
when spotting a well sat on the rim of the well
saw my reflection; yes, I was beautiful, but
noticed a dark shadow behind me
pushing me into the well and looking up
Evil had gone
clawed myself to the top, the Evil sat by the fireside
my talons scratched its eyes out
Evil ran outside, cooling his dead eyes in falling
I'm a silky bird with golden feathers
The evil scream bore man's suffering
Wisdom lost there was a land that had golden sand
lemon trees and jubilant...

a cold snap
cold environment
In the flat farming landscape
the soil had frozen solid in the absence of snow
in a hollow, rain had made a lake
where he could go try skating after the animals
had been seen to
when he opened the door to the stalls, the cows
mooed wanted milking and stalls cleaned
with fresh straws
sheep and goats, taken into the barn
were the first to let out when there was a thaw
with his job done, washed his hands in
the scullery kitchen ate big slices of homemade bread, cheese, marmalade, and milk

the car buisness
Automobile industry
At the seaside, the water signaled many colors
pale sober gin, dark hue, then bottle green and pink like a nursery rhyme
no one took notice the sea was warning of a disaster.
It began in the late afternoon when the sun felt tired but hesitated to sink beyond the horizon
So much more to see, and the night lasted until six in the morning.
The cars by the seaside started all at once and
headed towards the bay and into the sea
the bottom of the bay was smooth, and many cars were able to drive far before they drowned, but the...

Your Poem made me Cry
the blood from your broken heart
ink to the poem of lost love
your heartache tattooed in verses
sent dusts into my eyes
lost in time etched in memories
of a love that once embraced
your spirit, your soul, your mortality
only for him to leave
before you kissed the dawn
My tears fell for your pain
for your memories that ended
with a rose on a grave stone
and you stepping back alone
you are strong, indeed stronger
the pain like a forge to your spirit
screaming and crying to God
"Why did you...

Good Endings
There's always an ache when I finish a good book.
My heart feels full, my mind satiated.
Yet, there's a longing.
A hope that the story never ends.
Sure, good things don’t last.
But can we pretend,
just for a while,
That they do?
My heart feels full, my mind satiated.
Yet, there's a longing.
A hope that the story never ends.
Sure, good things don’t last.
But can we pretend,
just for a while,
That they do?

writings in books
Little girl curled up with her maroon poetry book
Small dog eared pages pinched with care
Tear stained paper from nights that haunt
The faint names barely legible because she
Gently and with the softest precision in pencil
Wrote names by the ones that were inspiring
Poetry the only way to find the words
Poetry was the only way out of her mind
Small dog eared pages pinched with care
Tear stained paper from nights that haunt

a small lake
A small lake
There was a lake not far from the white-washed hamlet
in the interior of the Algarve; on hot summer days, witnessed
by my dog, which shuddered at the thought.
It was a small lake surrounded by hillsides, modest
almost unobstructed, just water, no big deal
One day when driving past the lake had disappeared
a dent in the ground full of thistles and tine of tunny
Oh, come think of it, a rowing boat that once had been
optimistically blue, but now sad dried teardrops.
The plane between the hill where the lake lived
is a centre...

the importance of the small things
The importance of the small things
Out of a crack at the foot of a wall, a tiny baby mouse
blinded by the brightness of this autumnal day
I picked up the new life and put it in the palm of my hand
sensing the warmth, the baby curled up and slept.
To think this tiny animal had a heart, lungs, liver and
so, just like me; living in a world too immense to
grasp other than an outline of space and time.
In less than a week, the baby mouse will be an adult
and since mice do not go for higher education, one
can assume it will not take an...

clouds and a moment
Clouds and a moment
When a cloud rolled over lake Michigan
cast an eerie spell of otherness over the lake
the stillness was profound when a bird
shrieked in horror.
When the cloud disappeared up yonder
a ferry crossed the lake's undulating water
reached the shore as a wet handshake
of monotony.
