You'll Turn Out The Same
Your parents have a problem and you live in constant pain
Your atmosphere is darkness as you begin to go insane
And the way you're going, you'll turn out the same
You hear the words of wisdom as you practice what you tell
You follow your parents teachings, as they threaten you to hell
And the way you're going, you'll turn out the same
My advice to you, is follow what's in your heart
For if you don't, you'll be finished before you begin to even start
And the way you're going, you'll turn out the same
Your atmosphere is darkness as you begin to go insane
And the way you're going, you'll turn out the same
You hear the words of wisdom as you practice what you tell
You follow your parents teachings, as they threaten you to hell
And the way you're going, you'll turn out the same
My advice to you, is follow what's in your heart
For if you don't, you'll be finished before you begin to even start
And the way you're going, you'll turn out the same

I didn't come to say goodbye
I didn't come to say goodbye
to you
we've said goodbye
many times over
I don't understand
how one more time
will make this hurt any less
Death is for the living
it's a weight that's meant
for us alone to bear
death is easy for dead
though I'm sure you're glad
that when your finally hours
ticked around
we all showed up
I didn't come to say goodbye
to you
I came because social norms
dictate I not be a bitch
and abandon family
never mind that I have to live ...

Living Arrangements
I'm living at my parents house
An old girlfriend is living their too
I don't know this until she comes out of a room
She looks at me and asks me if I'm living here and I say yes
She & my mother begin laughing in my face
They then drive away in my father's boat

Mom
Her voice caught when I called her “Mom”
just like I figured that it might
It had been some time since she'd heard that
term of endearment despite
I once fathered her grandchildren
long ago; once upon a time
Before her daughter burned bridges
and taught our kids that I am slime
just like I figured that it might
It had been some time since she'd heard that

rules for childhood
avoid putting your toys
away
-or-
taking a bath, bedtime
and doing your homework
play as much as you can
doodle endlessly
laugh and giggle
incessantly
say no to your parents
often
pout well and ask for
forgiveness later
imagine constantly
refuse your veggies
candy is always better
live in the moment
live for today...
tomorrow is too far
away
ask for this, ask for
that
want way too much ...

Proud
I very often feel like my parents aren’t proud of me.
Then, suddenly, something happened.
I made a painting for my father,
It was a dinosaur.
He said he loved it and that was that.
Yesterday while celebrating the 4th overheard him speaking to someone.
“He’s gonna start performing with his guitar!”
“Oh that’s great, he’s so talented.”
“He really is, did you see the painting he made me? It’s so cool!”
I stood there as still and quiet as I could,
I was so happy...

Appearances
I don’t blame people for assuming,
I don’t blame outsiders for not looking in.
If you saw a shop with a sign that said “pet store”,
You’d assume if you looked in you’d see pets and pet supplies.
If you saw a building with a sign that said library,
You’d assume if you looked in you’d see books and desks.
If you saw people labeled “mother” and “father”,
You’d assume they were nurturing and caring of their children.

To My Father: Thank You for Throwing Me Away
Exhale, it's been a long journey for sure,
Through the heartache, I've found a cure.
From the shadows of your absence, I grew,
And now, Dad, I have something to say to you.
Thank you for throwing me away,
For leaving me behind, day by day.
Your absence was a wound, deep and raw,
But in the pain, I found my own law.
I begged for your love until I was fifty,
But all it did was leave me empty.
You saw me as a mistake, an unwanted trace,
But I found strength in your cold embrace.
In your rejection, I found my own light,
Dancing with...
