what's this obsession with that social ladder
...blows my mind
how attractive people seem to find it
but they're all frantically trying to climb it
like it takes them somewhere special
honestly...they're not really even moving
just going through the motions
claiming status by osmosis
dropping names like grenades
hoping to shake things up
like I give a fuck...
I'm not exactly at the bottom of the chain
but I sure can see it clearly from here
it's full of...

when night swallows our shadows
holding them hostage
returning them only in daylight
it's a reminder
half of what we are...
..is dark
all smiles under sun's rays
trying to hide the unwanted aspect
& there it is
plain as the nose on your face
following you everywhere
constantly changing shape
stretching & condensing
putting on weight
just trying to fit
into your falsely defined space
as you stuff it further down
lying to yourself...
more than anyone else

I mistrust beauty
it's been too unkind to me
pretty smiles & lovely words
lack a certain depth
hollow...shallow
just empty props...
taken at face value
remove the glamour
...then let's talk
show me those scars
...makeup off
the gaping
the ugly
the raw
we all have them
I'm not interested in the mask
...impeccably detailed
I want the real
so drop the facade
attraction lives in vulnerability's...

when the budget has no elasticity

or how far you can stretch a tank of gas
carefully conserving
painstakingly plotting out routes

& no more resources are forthcoming

crawling out of bed
even though your bones still ache
sore from the day before

or how they move
their experience of life...
was not what the universe gave you

they were striving to merely survive

approach them with compassion...
because...

I've been raised to go to "church" the entirety of my childhood life; in hindsight- one would say it's all misguided rituals and forced fed cultlike vibes....
from the moment the mind develops enough to question why- everything under the sun will be criticized....

Overcoming Fear
It wasn’t so much the fear of what happens after death
But the constant guilt over things beyond my control
It just felt like many of the decisions I made in my youth
Were based on the premise – I was trying to save my soul
And yet for some reason it felt like something was missing
Many of the things I saw and witnessed didn’t make sense
I had lost faith and found it and lost it over and over again
And until the veil was lifted it stripped away that innocence
Then I believed I’d achieve something with a bigger purpose
Even the little...
