Love Conquers Winter
The holidays are here in full swing!
My mother put up the big special tree.
And my sister added the ornaments,
So everyone can be happy and sing!
This time of year is so special to me.
It sings to my heart's own sentiments,
Reminding me of life's special joys.
Like when I play with all my toys...
And make lots and lots of silly noise.
That doesn't mean that I'm not wise!
It just means that I am me.
Only me, very much indeed!
The only thing I know how to be.
My spirit bright when it is freed,
To soar with my imagination. ...

There is Xmas, then there is Xmas—
each birthed from differences
and responsibilities.
Earth pounds beneath you to love
like this you must be punished
to appreciate hurting this way.
Two thousand odd years—
whose logic is this?
Winter comes, oils your skin,
and maybe it would come without Xmas,
but you are afraid what would happen
without you.
Besides, living is necessary. It keeps things
as they should be.

While a frozen beer glass
melts in the heat,
a Motorhead tee shirt
gets played on repeat.
my overdressed legs
are stuck to the seat,
when I close my mind
I can hear the beach.
So I'm falling forward
back to the crime,
my eyes are seasick
guess you must be blind.
On days like these
we can take all the time
and all I can do is smile.
The toilets are through
a back room bar
where bald old men
sit smoking cigars
I ask for a light
and they show me their scars ...
