Winter Waits for her time to bite
A crouching Lioness
In frozen winds
Belly to the arctic waves
Starved and waiting
To strike at the painted land
Painted by Autumn's golden Hands
She Preys on those
Without a future
Without a past

Autumn leaves falling in drifts
Flying with the will of the wind
The brown confetti from the trees
Fall aimless to the ground
You will be as them
Old brown and discarded
To the ground you go
And be interred

the air fills its icy lungs,
huffing at the tartness -
disrespected once again  
by Winter’s lack of regard  
for personal space;  
my old brown boots    
scraping salted pavement,    
their hollow voices

against cheap siding
