Rest In Peace, Hazel - Part IV
You died half a year ago tonight and I had to say goodbye.
It was six months ago when I watched you die.
It's never easy when a man loses a dog as special as you.
If somebody says that you were awesome, it will be true.
You were in the living room with me when I watched you take your final breath.
When I had to watch you die, it was extremely painful to have to face your death.
You had chocolate brown fur and you're a dog who I'll never forget.
You died on a Saturday night and when you died, I lost a great pet.

The Pug
Her name was Linda.
She was 48 years old. Most people would tell her that she was still young, that she had so much life left to live.
They didn't realize that, what she couldn't say, was that in so many ways, she had already given up.
She was morbidly obese, and her health was failing. But it wasn't so much that. She was severely mentally ill, and the medication didn't do much to help. A life-long predisposition towards sadness and hopelessness was her fare in life, and it had never changed.
She lived with her beautiful 22 year-old daughter...

Mortem Immaturus in Maio: A Scene of Putrescence, Grief, and Rain
The grime-coated walls of a cement-made bodega house a family of two; her mother cries out beside her, howling, a grief-stricken tune—it is a dog-eat-dog world after all. Four walls echo silence and few.
The buzz of an old lightbulb— swarmed by a myriad of flying termites, the quiet whine of my panicked and labored breath, the heaving and puffing of a mother dog.
The skies cry out above us: its tears soaking the unclipped growth—that surrounds concrete foundations. A reek astir, odor of: wet loam, mold, fungi, and wood encapsulates us in a bubble, suffocating, with a...

not knowing where your mind is lately
wondering where you went with your heart
first, you stopped talking to me kindly
then ignoring the dog
giving me the cold shoulder if I question
what was wrong
having made do with your venting as conversation
when you have jokes for everyone else
waiting my turn for a few minutes of the day
it really hurts when this is spent in silence
your eyes gazing off into the distance
you didn't used to be that way even a month ago
getting mad at me and bear because we feel it ...

The dog wanted wet sand for breakfast
so the car had the oceans scent in its nostrils,
skittling down single track roads
forcing bread van's and jogger's
to dodge inside plump hedgerow's.
The morning was damp and deafening
a larva lamp orange spilled out its warning
onto the clawing nails of white foam
that slapped a hand across
smooth wet sand.
She made her marks four at a time
barking back at the chasing tide
as I found a calmness in the throng,
a moment of solitude, sea glass green ...

On Daisy the dog, whose life was saved by her cuteness
Our Daisy is a “special” dog
with such peculiar fears,
we wonder what is going on
between those soft, warm ears.
We got her from a shelter;
she was born completely deaf --
so twice within her first three months
she was abandoned, left.
A communication “expert”,
eagerly the task I met:
to train a dog who couldn’t hear
to be our family pet.
Through positive conditioning,
hand signals, flashing lights,
she mastered all the basics,
aced the class - oh what delight!
But deep within her heart ...

There’s a Dog snoring (NaPoWriMo 3)
There’s a Dog snoring in my room.
Well,
the room for me as a guest.
The fold-out bed
goes where she is sleeping
so I’ll let her snore some more
And move her when she wakes up.
There’s a Dog snoring in the room.
Well,
Snoring and snorting
in the same tone
as my Grandma used to make.
There’s a Dog snoring in this room.
And I’m using the time
to write a poem
As it would be cruel to wake her,
And anyway,
I get the giggles listening to snoring.
Something about hearing sleep enjoyed ...

Wiener Walk
I bend down to pet the dachshund
because dog
The owner nods her approval
Aww, what a sweetie
my standard sincere statement
about any canine
who doesn't bare its' fangs
and sever tendons in my wrist
He just went for a wiener walk!
the 40-ish blonde woman tells me
Oh...
so, a walk with other dachshunds?
Did I really need to ask that?
Yes,
blonde 40 confirms
He had fun
but it doesn't take long for him to get tired
Yeah, like the men in the age group I'm...

Dining Out Of Trash Cans
George was an ambitious fox. He is very cunning and intelligent, although he would eat out of trash cans, in the alleyway, in his element.
He takes food home, back to the family den, where his lady fox and cubs are in the forestry of the ends.
He could visit a lot of bins in one night, trying to find a nice delight, when one day he messed up and had quite a fright.
A booby-trap cage had crashed down and locked him inside. There was nowhere he could run, and nowhere he could hide.
He was trapped for the night. He had stepped onto the wrong lawn....

Rest In Peace, Hazel - Part III
It's been three months since the day when you died.
You were a wonderful dog and that can't be denied.
I remember the day when I bought you.
When you died, it was a terrible thing to go through.
I became a lucky man when your former owner sold you to me.
You were my Chihuahua and I bought you on August 18, 2020.
When you died, it was something that was sure to devastate.
You were my dog and that's something I'll always appreciate.

A Beautiful Story For Ugly Children
One day a dog bit the index finger of his master
the dog ran off with a bloody finger,
before the master could catch him
the dog came to a river and went onto a wooden dock
the dog looked down into the water
he saw another dog with a bloody finger and a shadow of a man behind him
the dog had no idea what he was seeing
The master grabbed the dog by the collar,
wrestled with the dog for several minutes
the dog dropped the finger out of his mouth
the master picked up his mangled, chewed up index finger,
and went back home ...
