Watching
( a Rensaku = linked tanka )
a mother eagle
scans horizon flying west
to the canyon —
two eaglets in a nest
wait high atop a ridge
outstretched wings
ride a thermal updraft
silent, on the hunt
single-minded, piercing
through the fading sunlight
sweeping down
into the canyon’s maw
where daylight sleeps,
we’ve set up camp, a fire
& dine on humpback chub
...

Ruthie the Dog Goes Into Therapy
Ruthie the Dog Goes Into Counseling
Amber opens, “Well, I finally get to visit you in person Ruthie. John has told me so much about you. I feel like I already know you and I must say based on what he said you must be a dog of great character whom I would trust in my very own household.”
Ruthie says, “Oh if it weren’t for all this fur I’d be blushing. John does dote on me in so many ways so I really shouldn’t complain. But there is this issue hanging over us which never seems to go away. You see I went through the most traumatic experience and overreacted for which...

Ruthie the Dog's Birthday Party
Ruthie the Dog's Birthday Party
Ruthie gazes into the face of the St. Francis statue. She remembers how her human Mom used to weed the garden there before she left this earth. Ruthie speaks to the image of the saint. “Are you what God looks like?”
To Ruthie’s amazement, the stone comes to life and answers her. “Yes, and so are you, Ruthie.”
The man from the past raises his arm and points to the vacant lot just outside the fence. Suddenly the scene is replaced by a meadow with pink bunny rabbits bouncing across the grass. “Follow me,” says the robed man. Ruthie...

Frankensteins Monsters Mongrel
I am Frankensteins monster
My father was the infamous doctor
He made me a wife but I didn't want her
I asked my father if I could return her
He refused and she got meaner and meaner
I look ugly but her personality was uglier
She treated me like a cook and cleaner
She was a liar, cheater and husband beater
She chucked me out and I was more than happy to release her
I heard she remarried a second hand car dealer
I say good luck to the geezer.
I work as a grave digger at a pet cemetery
I live in a tent on site as night...

Hound Dogs Deputy
I hated my job and was desperate to leave
I ignored robberies and other acts of criminality
I was the worst sheriff in the towns history
Eventually they replaced me with a puppy called mystery
They gave my sheriff hat to the puppy
They gave my sheriff badge to the puppy
The locals voted and I was demoted
Now I'm that hound dogs deputy
And that mutts a better sheriff than I could ever be
A cat would be a better Sheriff than me
A tree would be a better Sheriff than me
A flea would be a better Sherriff than me
I admit it I...

Dragon
Dragon is my future cat. I haven’t got her yet.
She is an idea, a hope and a dream,
But that which is written has now been said,
And I am not one to break my word.
My words are my bond, bound truth, without which I am nothing.
One day, I promise, I will find her.
One day I will no longer be missing.
A dragon with a tortoise shell,
Like her predecessor and her son.
Those which were, have never been forgotten,
But I have lost the son and the mom,
To a former love; once upon a time she was mine.
It is time to walk a...

Playing Pictionary With the Clouds
Hello Antoine, so wonderful you have come to visit,
if only for a brief moment,
brought and taken away on the breezes of life.
Weary is my body
resting on the grass
gazing at the clouds
slowly swirling as they pass
They are like a picture book
pages in the air
that occupy ones thoughts
mindscapes if aware
Beauty lying within shapes
symbols that appear
here one moment, gone the...

Dogs of past, present and future
Dogs of past
Scottie and Glen were both West Highlands White Terriers and the best of friends. When I was born they were already both old men but I remember them sitting on the garden steps or laying under the bench. You were like brothers walking, playing and eating together. Both of them have passed so I hope they are back together forever.
Eddie was a Jack Russell who belonged to my uncle. He was mad but his nature was beautiful. He was only small but could leap six foot in the air to catch a ball, he would play fetch for hours, ate nothing but Chicken and licked...
