Brain drain of culture
Teachers and nurses
Run for the exits
As right wing madness
Seeps in local school boards
Putting matches to literature
Telling them you can’t be gay
Or be he she or they
Mickey Mouse is an outlaw
Magic kingdom not so free
Down in Texas wheelchair of cruelty
Letting little school kids be mowed down
Or freezing with no power
As cops in the hallway on their phones
Are afraid of a one man killing machine
He’s giving permits to kill out like candy

numb of speech for careful meetings
covered stars
over-stares of lap
with dullard ties
nod or quake
to desk in stone

Things are about to break,
it's on the tongue of the world-
we're
about to
synchronize
fomented worms
in misery
zap with certain
electricity,
mass = hypnotized:
where will a town mouse
hide
from bill-collecting
fat cat rage
of rubes & cons
across the Rubicon?
This land is our land,
from bubbling cauldron
to breeding bored

They praise you in the streets and have no shame.
You hexed the good and gave love to the wicked.

Don't you know the police will get you cuz what you doin' there ain't right?
They're gonna come harass you,
it's their way.
You know they just can't leave you be.

Spirits At War
Spirits At War
When I looked into your eyes
sometimes I would see warmth, compassion.
Other times I would see death and destruction.
I never knew which it was going to be
when I looked at you and you looked at me.
For a time I lived a lie in red anger.
Out of viciousness I believed it was always lies, cheating
and I hated every one of you.
Since I have realized through others that my belief is not so true
and therefore not fair to despise all of you.
Now my beliefs are based on percentages.

Too many borders for joyful fates;
yet still were some who thought they might unite
under a banner as true as midnight
with field stars like the United States
to likewise symbolize potential there
or an emulation of welkin grace
which all visionary humans can trace
with optimism and hope in the air.

and indeed do their best to undermine
anything and everything benign

Chasing my dream
Singing on the bridge
Looking to pay for me
Feeding family on a couple on yuan
I’m chasing dragons I thought were dreams
Living in a land that crushes yearning
Singing for supper is better than giving in to
Set up my lights camera on I’m rolling
Five feet away another is lighting up

1600 Bailey street
Smell the powder of the gun
3 yrs old dancing in the street
Not on a perp sheet
Braids of sunshine in her hair
Innocence meet violence
Sorry but it’s the wrong time
To be young without gunshots
Bailey street seems sweet
But without a bullet proof soul
Can’t cut between the cars
Or jump some hopscotch
Having to keep looking over my shoulder
And duck for cover
Bailey street is just like America
More guns than people
2nd Amendment is Bible to them...

I spent a good lot
of my misspent youth
obsessively reading
about artists
so that now
when they’re being cancelled
I can say ‘I already knew
Armie Hammer liked flesh!
if I lived in LA I’d have warned his poor wife
to never spill barbecue sauce on herself!’
and ‘of course the Foo Fighters
were AIDS denialists!
I read it on some random site
circa 2009.’
the lesson is that artists
are just like politicians:
they might do you good,
but are just as much bastards
as anyone else.
