Wooden Vessels -
now cold and empty,
those once filled
branches
of silhouetted leaves,
falling away
in twilight hours,
mourning in their
suffering
with a mocked destination,
immigrants exiled
from a caring harvest,
like lost embers
from the last songbird,
each wintry breath
rustling in their graves,
while the system's tears
whisper over
an unmovable corpse,
starved and decaying.

No Emojis Redux
Stopped using them
I admit
It’s hard
Dialing back our fast food world
What’s the harm you think
No harm
Just one more useless caveman expression
Doing my best not to
Take the challenge
Try it for one day

Vanity’s Reprisal
Falsehood joviality stolen birthrights unbeknownst of humility documented by scrolls written of ancient time
Fourscore the crown falsify echoes of bloodied birthright disparity as it once flowed like sands of time
Give me liberty, you gave me death
Stolen heritage unto every mankind worn proudly of a soulless heart given less
Burdensome history, not rooted of melanin creed
The first shall be last, shall be first again, beautifully seeps of Moorish DNA bowed, until death principles will bleed
To the mountaintop I’ve looked over, seen beyond the Pale...

the election
Thunder and lightning last night
I got up stood on the terrace I like the streaks of light
across the dark sky the noise of Thor´s hammer
sounds like Portland a restless night.
I love the spectacles of lightning on the sky it is dangerous
truthfully, to be hit by one flaming arrow
and made into a melting rainbow, not a bad way to go.
Then came the rain.
We have been waiting for the final result of the election
it drags on and on, much ado, but the puzzles have to fit before
order descend like drizzle upon a parched land.

Motorcycle Journey to Coffee Collective collab by John and Dan
Motorcycle Journey to Coffee Collective
Going There by John:
The windblown scent of agave
reminds me of the half-drunk tequila bottle.
As the stars gather in the New Mexican sky, I say,
“Dan, Pegasus is high in the bowl of night.
This bodes well for a fortunate venture.
What do you say we skip town
and head south of the border?”
Our Harleys have gathered dust
for many a moon
but with some tuning are ready
for our bat out of hell ride
under the black hat night. ...

poetry reading in Paris
Poetry reading in Paris
Paris, six or seven years ago
I was invited to read my poems in front of an audience
At the time I wrote many pro-Palestinians poems
and I had nothing good to say about Israel.
I read my poems for a packed audience, but when I looked up,
must of them had left.
In the room there about five none Jewish people left.
The man who had invited me was a Moroccan Jew we got on well, but he had not asked me what poems I was reading.
He had disappeared with the others, and someone came to switch off the light.
Paris didn´t...

across the seas
across the seas
the Pacific Ocean was like an undulating mirror
that day the ship was on its way to Nagasaki
which for the young crew onboard meant nothing
it is incredible how quickly a war is forgotten.
Under the ocean, there were hundreds of sunken ships
there must have been much suffering and deaths
and many books were written on how successful America
had been beating the enemy into submission.
Nagasaki was like building site the Phoenix was rising
up from the ashes shinier than before.
