Neighbors
We fucked ourselves
screwed the pooch
prayed to the god of money
showered us with love and praise
in the land of milk and honey
we waited and we waited
for the money to fall
from a sky of amber waves
thought dancing with the devil
would get us what we need
the walls been breached
your souls been sold
for gold and rotted seed
i look to my neighbor
think to myself
does he bleed like i bleed
shame on you shame on me
maybe its time for shame to leave
it's my neighbor again
he's bust through the door ...

A Modest Return
The dupe prefers a midnight shade to snare a single hide,
Drafts the freely given dark for ends you long denied.
Doesn’t need your genuflection, yet demands your sole attention,
Waited long to seize your mind, your behaviour modified.
Stumble if you want to, but I’ve seen it overtake you,
Now you forfeit what was once true,
For a modest return.
Scriptoriums in dusty hills announce the new diversion,
The flicker show grants its favours to the picture-perfect person,
Flung afar from every platform, deft manoeuvres make us conform,

Dating is Dated (or should be)
Much like kindergarten
prepares children for childhood
the 1950s model of dating
prepared young men and women for their adult roles.
In the old days
the man was the provider
so he paid on dates.
The woman took great care with her appearance,
a crucial part of her role.
Sometimes the man ordered for the woman in restaurants
without even consulting her.
I wouldn't have survived.
"The lady will have the salmon"
"Eww! I will not. I HATE fish!"
That would have...

Stare from a distance.
Never take you home.
There's no real conversation.
I'd rather see you alone.
Ill pretend like I'm interested,
But never message your phone.
I guess it makes sense,
Why i never get to bone.
Real guys get your number,
And make you moan.
Then I realize,
That is all you've known.
It's hard to investigate,
When my cover is already blown.

The cool cities
have lost it
Seattle is septic
Portland is paunchy
Denver has dementia
Miami is myopic
Honolulu has a hernia
Phoenix is phucked up
Once homecoming kings and queens
now unfixable with plastic surgery alone
they reminisce about the old days
Soon they'll be startled to find
the uncool kids they teased
wearing the crowns:
Cincinatti
Pittsburgh
Bismark
Not because those cities were born all that
but because of what they are not
Yet.

Love Rots
Love, my friends, is overrated.
Be compassionate, have empathy instead.
And not always regard yourself
as Tristan or Isolde,
the Lochinvar who came
to overturn the bridal feast.
Kindness,
when done with earnestness
and not as trickery,
is what disperses clouds
to give the withered crops fresh light.
Where love can be selfish, needful,
a passion rushing forth
as much to solder cracks
in one's own soul.
Love pressed the pillow down
on Desdemona's face,
or so Othello might have claimed.
