Long Poems About Cats

( a Sonnet )
 
The time that I have spent away from home
Has never been like there and yet the same.
To take me back but limit where I'd roam
That brought me down each time the winter came.
Most times while deep in thought while I would tread,
Ignoring humans even though I'd see
From shadow's movement when I'd raise my head,
For there you'd be, Old Tom, amusing me.
The bitter cold of rain would have me think      
About the trees and grasslands of my birth,      
Before my mother's lessons were extinct,       ...

I had a strange dream last night
I walked in a haze to the window
The sky was chocolate brown
With whipped cream clouds
And streaks of cappuccino
The sun was a violent blue
I hesitantly looked out of my window
It all felt and looked odd
A fat black crow clumsily landed
On my slate topped wall
He looked around then began to call
He began to dance a crow dance
And stopped as he was joined
On the wall by a grey squirrel
The fat black crow spoke
In a crow language that
I could not easily understand
He gestured to the squirrel...

My man’s best friend was Sam the cat
He sat alone; alone on his mat
Circumstances had got him down
A glum expression, a constant frown
His life felt empty, full of strife
One way out, he’d take his own life

He found some pills under the chair
Someone left them lying there
He lapped them up, he wolfed them down
He waited feeling quite run down
Packet label, don’t know what it means
He’d overdosed on jelly beans
He now had more to undergo
One life gone and eight to go

He found himself a length of rope
