the mouse
The mouse
My wife was opening the door to the verandah
when she spotted a mouse and fled to the kitchen
and shouted, “Kill it, kill it!”
I picked up the small animal hiding under a dry leaf
that had yet to be blown away, careful not to be bitten
soon the mouse relaxed in the palm of my hand.
I marvelled about this tiny thing; how did it get on
the seventh floor must have been climbing up at night
got lost or tired and rested on our terrace
There was no way I was going to kill it if there had
been hundreds of them on the terrace, I...

Grandpa Blues for Grandma & Me
Grandpa Blues for Grandma & Me
Deserted gas station
In pitch black cloak
Of an African American gentleman
Ambling down the street
Our guardian seraph
On this blue avenue
Where parishioners of the church congregate
And a New Jerusalem waits
The man ushers us down the aisle
What is your name I ask?
“Richard, too many people know me
Where I died in Paris
But here hardly anyone knows me.
I prefer the anonymity of my hometown.”
And the memory of a lonely sign
By the bluffs that honors the Native Son ...

He's Not Like This All the Time
I love you.
You're an asphyxiant
Because, your heart, what's left is crumbs.
Imaging a picture perfect person.
Your eyes, the windows to the soul,
Through my lens, pre-post
All I see is red
You're an asphyxiant
Because, your heart, what's left is crumbs.
Imaging a picture perfect person.
Your eyes, the windows to the soul,
Through my lens, pre-post
All I see is red

solo, so low
you want to test me
I get it
I get it
I get it
how fucking long?
I know what's at stake
I stake my lack of reputation on that
it hurts really
I'm out there I see some of you are too
attack me, come out and do it
but I ask why we are kicking each other's asses
divide and conquer
that's what he would do, you know me
I am uniting
you underestimate the disturbed ones
you think I couldn't I connected to them
purified and pushed through
I am...

I know people get pissed at me because I always favored you

I have to be myself

brotherhood, sisterhood, cousins, Time Infinite
you still got room on the block for me?
I miss you, man
I can't lie
I try
it hurts me
you want to beat me down brotherfucker?
I am here in lockup
I never talked
interrogation
yeah deja vu
I'm spinning in the energy
our kids are fine
man, I...

Fck family
I never asked to be born
Times I wish I was not
Family can be phelm they can be snot
Chasing approval of a narcissist
I hope his face falls into a fist
There's no need to love family
Not when everything is against me
God I wish I wasn't born
Ever since I was I been scorn
Fuck my family
It's my life its about me

Chapter 1
The Birth
Norman and Marlon had a sister named Claudia. She was their only sister. Claudia gave birth to a baby girl. The baby was born prematurely, and she was such a tiny thing. She weighed about two and a half pounds. The doctors at the hospital had to keep Claudia’s baby in an incubator for a few weeks. Claudia’s family were so happy when she brought home her cute Indian baby.
Norman was the youngest sibling. Although Marlon and his sister could not get along well, he loved his first niece very much. Claudia would put the baby on a pillow to sleep...

oh, father, dear father
Oh, Father Dear!
When my children were small, I played with them, I was
a good father carried them on my shoulders, but when
they became teenagers and truculent I lost all interest in
their silly arguments paid for their education and went
abroad to live in our second home in Spain.
My children never write or ring, their mother, who didn’t
come to live with me, says it is because I had forsaken
them. I paid for their university and used my influence to get
their well-paid jobs, yet they feel I should have done more
I think they should be...

pizzini snd Broremann
Pizzini and Broremann
He used to carry a tiny notebook fitted for his pocket
writing down what he saw on his daily walks in the woods
and also writing rare words in newspapers when sat
in the café by the lake.
Leaves on trees, green grass fledglings trying to fly
many had success others drowned in tiny rainwater pools
life has the habit of crushing us; when we do our best
to be loyal to family and friends.
He once had a sister, generous and kind, who called him
Broremann (little man) because he was a serious child

washboard waltz
Washboard Waltz
Is a washboard musical when scrubbing socks on its metal ribbons?
The woman in the basement was not aware of anything other
than the soap suds, steamed-up windows and the sense of hopelessness
when working on a Saturday, a day of rest from the factory floor.
Other women, too, did laundry day, gave her a feeling of pride
to see her washing on the line was cleaner than theirs.
She sat by the window in the kitchen, keeping an eye on the washing
smoking cigarettes and drinking coffee from a mug with her name
and wondered if...

a cabin in the woods
A cabin in the woods
In the flatland near the north-westerly coast where the wind blows hard
and is often rainy and cold; my great-grandparents planted many trees
that eventually became a forest, not a big forest, but enough to give
ease against the wind that sometimes blew roofs off barns and houses.
The perennials took root, although those near the sea were warped
Inside the woods, wild animals thrived, foxes, rabbits and many birds
A cabin was built to observe flora and fauna, and it was to a cabin
like this, my brother moved in an attempt to...
