Thank You
I want to thank you for raising me.
I know you could have pushed me to the side,
And did things like all the other kids did.
I want to thank you for practicing wrestling moves on me.
It taught me how to defend myself.
That's why the streets didn't conquer me.
I want to thank you stepping in and taking moms place,
When I was scared and had nightmares.
You were always there to fight off my demons.
I want to thank you for teaching me,
How to open our hidden Christmas presents,
And wrapping them back up, ...

Grandpa Blues for Grandma & Me
Deserted gas station
In pitch black cloak
Of an African American gentleman
Ambling down the street
Our guardian seraph
On this blue avenue
Where parishioners of the church congregate
And a New Jerusalem waits
The man ushers us down the aisle
What is your name I ask?
“Richard, too many people know me
Where I died in Paris
But here hardly anyone knows me.
I prefer the anonymity of my hometown.”
And the memory of a lonely sign
By the bluffs that honors the Native Son ...

Timeliness, isn’t my best trait…
I’m always late, and he’s fully cognisant that he’s always waiting. Waiting, for me to tell it like it is when he’s incapable of grasping the truth.
I grabbed a coffee on my way, and I’m well caffeinated but I’ll grab another fresh cup whilst pondering what’s in front of me.
He calls me, and asks why the delay, I sense no agitation just a where the fuck are you now !?
As usual, I’m stuck in traffic, wracking my brain about where to park, before I even arrive whilst pondering the lines in the middle of the road.
