HERE ON THIS 4th OF JULY (July 4th, 2003, Galveston Island,Texas; D.H.)
here on this 4th of july
even though im alone
there are no loose ends
for everythings done
and well in my world
outside on my bike
riding high on life
shirt off in the wind
and sun
as intermittent raindrops
lightly begin to fall
greeting my happy skin
commingled with warm sunlight
upon this gulfs
fresh steady breeze
more intimately now
with its delicate sprinkling
of tiny cool droplets
that touch and taste
my open flesh
which blissfully drinks
their restorative ...

The break up
Getting left behind again,
There is so much pain,
Let me sit in the rain,
Nothing left to gain,
Sounds like I complain,
But let me explain,
His heart has changed,
But mine is unchanged,
It hurts,
But I must move forward,
So I let go,
I should have known,
Darkness seems like it's trying to drown me,
But I look to that small light and keep moving forward
There is so much pain,

I'm Not A Matchmaker
A shy man wants me to find a girl for him,
But I’m afraid I can’t do that
He’ll have to find someone for himself
I don’t help men to meet women,
And neither do I help women to meet men
If I knew a girl who wanted a boyfriend,
I wouldn’t set her up with him
What will happen if they don’t love each other?
I write romantic poetry and songs
And I have a way with words
I know how to approach women,
But I’m not a matchmaker
I don’t operate a dating agency
Frankly, I don’t pair off people
I’m not going to introduce anyone to...
But I’m afraid I can’t do that

to have a friend wasn't a thing
those people were temporary
I just wanted to finish school
I wasn't looking for anyone

for a moment time stood still
