Kill Him Again
Martha Fokker of Lincoln, Nebraska greased the floor of her kitchen in an attempt to kill her one-legged boyfriend in 1991. She slipped on the floor and knocked herself unconscious instead. Police found more grease near the top of the stairs and by the bathroom door. The boyfriend, Lou Briccant, insisted that Martha was doing a little housework. Six months later, Martha fell backwards killing herself on a flight of stairs in the basement. She was carrying up that same bucket of grease that she tried using on her boyfriend to kill him. Under moonlit skies.

Eternal embrace.

Beneath the world's great surface
far from the sky's embrace.
Two hearts embark on journey's path
in Earth's secret place.
Hand in hand, they venture deep,

scared of its own deflection

out of the pond, siren song,
islets scattered with eyelets
shells borne of seasickness
a vessel emptied, clear glassy ides

Ringside
Tracy takes me to Ringside Steakhouse the day before my birthday
We get our entrees at 9:30 PM.
I've flown from Phoenix to Portland
Spent Thanksgiving with my sister
Then taken the train to Tacoma to visit old friends
By the time a bus gets me back to Portland, it's late and I'm not very hungry
I haven't seen Tracy in 14 years
and it's only the second time seeing him in almost twenty
He's not on social media, so I didn't know how to age him in my mind
I never thought of him as fat,
but he's lost something like 50 pounds ...
