The Deadly Bookcase
After her sister & mother haven't heard from Chrissy for several days, her family reported the petite 31 year old missing. Fifteen days after filing the missing persons report, the mother & sister noticed a foul odor in the house. Following their noses, they found Chrissy wedged behind a 6-foot bookcase. She had fallen headfirst and became trapped behind the bookcase when she tried to adjust her television set, which sat on the top shelf.

THE KAMA SUTRA, EXPLAINED TO BLOKES
The Kama Sutra has a guide
to how to get yourself inside
the woman you would make love to.
Techniques are ancient and not new,
yet may be a revelation
to those new to copulation
or want to broaden repertoire
in ways of raising "Ooh la la"
in the bedroom or other place
of lovemaking after the chase.
It explains the acts sexual
in tones Hindu spiritual.
India's population size
in light of this book's no surprise!

Repose
The wind, the rain, the wine and tea;
the candlelight and radio
playing jazz instrumentals low...
as quiet nights were meant to be;
with puddle ripples at a glance
waving me from the asphalt drips
as vision through a curtain slips
when I peek at the street askance,
and then the glimmer of the gilt
leads me to the spines of books
to earn eurekas and gadzooks
where all that printer's ink was spilt
as fodder for a midnight mind
in passage to more verse inclined.

There is No Need... (Fahrenheit 451 Part 3)
There is no need for self-expression”
First they banned them then they burn them
Dystopian futures can be just signatures away
They don’t want the masses to dwell in knowledge
They are afraid the people will seize the day
“…There is no need for creativity…”
The battery runs smoothly behind the pit
The cityscape changes with each rudiment
The firemen chase and throw books away
Setting them ablaze through every movement
“…There is no need for enlightenment…”
Their faces are full of soot and sweat
But...

I am PAR
Hello! I’m PAR, a gentle soul
with a penchant for birds and books.
While I may not be the most conventionally
handsome guy, my heart is as big as the sky.
I may not tower over others,
but I stand tall in kindness!
Well, let’s just say I’ve got a cozy dad bod.
A warm shade of hazel fits my eyes,
like the autumn leaves.
A bald character!
Comfortable and practical.
I prefer flannel shirts and worn-in jeans.
I lose myself in the pages of classic
poetry and blood epics.

Fantasy/reality
When you read the great tales, one truth is clear –
whether it’s Middle Earth or Narnia,
Charles Wallace, Will Stanton or Harry Potter
or in a galaxy far, far away…
Always there’s a great darkness
descending on the land
attacking hope
pitting people against each other
tearing worlds apart
Always the victory comes to those
who decide to reach out
stop being lone heroes
start working together
embracing one another
as their reason to fight.
And I wonder if the world
might do so much better

The Lost Books
The news announced the sinking ship;
water pushing its metal hull
off a gangplank of the straight
until it crumbled as crystal over rock
Planes spotted flotsam and jetsam
—pinched debris riding a caterpillar
of watery waves inching across the sea—
its waterlogged bite engorged
from strewn pages as leaves
sinking into a survivorless
translucency
Below, a commandeered army
—a delegation of new ghosts
manifesting posthumously
because sometimes Poseidon reads
while sitting peacefully at his desk—

Book review: A Marvellous Light, by Freya Marske
Okay, so I don't normally do book reviews, actually I don't do them at all. I just sometimes think about what I would say if someone asked about what I'm reading. No one ever asks.
This book almost demands a review, or something. I have read it three times in the last four days, which I never do.
With most books I enjoy, I read it, savour it, analyze it, and then stick it on a shelf for the next time I'm in the mood for it. I think I can name ever book I have read and reread, and held onto for the precious story it is. This is one of those books, only moreso.

One More Book
I answer her question with a rambling joke.
Do I have a plan in place?
Nah.
I'm too easily distracted.
Knowing me,
I'd be about to go through with killing myself
but there would be one last book I'd want to read.
Or one more poem I'd want to write.
One more place to see.
One more topic to research...
One more gelato flavor to try.
One more sexual experience to have.
One more cause to help.
If i had any common sense
I might end my life.
But there's always one more book. ...
