Poetry about books, here you'll find poems about, or inspired by, books. Poems about the power of words and books to influence, move and inspire. Poetry by avid readers of books and those for whom a book, or books, have had a profound influence over their life, and their writing.
My Memoir Grimoire
Letters steadily seep from my pen
soul kissed, finding their sacred spot
casting spells with words
soaking each page with creation
mating with paper for life
My mind, the sun
often so bright I don't
see the words as they come
they spill, blindly
determined to burn alive
At other times
my mind's shadow
howls at the moon
baring its sharp teeth
with every bitten word
scaring my fingers
Each breath, a second of time
spreading to all four corners
of my favorite pages
addicted to the...

it’s just how it is
phone’s died,
so tomorrow I’ll get
a new
one doesn't
mean
to sound
quite
so heartless,
of course

he didn't really want to get to know her
the young couple in the room
was empty
empty bottles empty glasses
he couldn’t see
through
whatever it was that she was hiding
behind her was a book
he’d never read
her
and her bloody books ..

I am PAR
Hello! I’m PAR, a gentle soul
with a penchant for birds and books.
While I may not be the most conventionally
handsome guy, my heart is as big as the sky.
I may not tower over others,
but I stand tall in kindness!
Well, let’s just say I’ve got a cozy dad bod.
A warm shade of hazel fits my eyes,
like the autumn leaves.
A bald character!
Comfortable and practical.
I prefer flannel shirts and worn-in jeans.
I lose myself in the pages of classic
poetry and blood epics.

The Sammelband Dream
I saw two dark volumes of ancient text
with their cover boards in a collate twist
and old water damage that left them flexed,
which is just the thing no scholar can resist.
They were under an old magazine stack
of surplus National Geographics
and a Britannica set, on a rack,
with an undiscovered script of Sapphics.
They were the totem midnight mind précis
of all the old books I will never read
or quick scan on a literary spree,
were I an immortal cranked up on speed.

Book review: A Marvellous Light, by Freya Marske
Okay, so I don't normally do book reviews, actually I don't do them at all. I just sometimes think about what I would say if someone asked about what I'm reading. No one ever asks.
This book almost demands a review, or something. I have read it three times in the last four days, which I never do.
With most books I enjoy, I read it, savour it, analyze it, and then stick it on a shelf for the next time I'm in the mood for it. I think I can name ever book I have read and reread, and held onto for the precious story it is. This is one of those books, only moreso.

trashy romance novels
I got a second hand
trashy romance novel for free
with the points on my local
bookstore loyalty card
I love picking up books
without really knowing
what I'm buying
it's just more fun that way
And as far as trashy romance goes
this was pretty classy
and unexpectedly funny
I laughed so hard I had to stop reading
more that once
because I was blinded
by my own tears of laughter
I think it was fate
that had me reaching that day
for the...

My lover read Demon Copperhead,
out on the headland, his eyes -
voracious beacons of light.
He was eighty, uttered sonnets in the local pub,
orchestrated Shakespeare in the gardens of his home.
My lover lent me High Fidelity,
one Winter when the snow fell so thick I sunk boots
into the depths of Suffolk plains.
I read it between coffees,
in a record shop that reminded me
of that place I had no reason
to ever return to.
My lovers gave me collections for my birthday,
ones they thought would...
