Long Poems About the Power Of Words

The f**kins
Watching river traffic on the Willamette was soothing. Tugboats leading mighty cargo ships. Fireboats with their high-reaching water plumes. Bedecked sailboats with flickering lights during the Christmas season. My favorite boat had a timed sequence of Santa skiing down a hill. All of this was right outside my window or viewed leisurely from my balcony. True, the complex was just starting to go to seed, remodeled some years later as pricey waterfront condos.

God is the only one to judge
Voices in my head,
Say that I’m better off dead.
But I’m too scared to die.
I don’t want to say goodbye.
I just dont want to hurt.
Anymore.
I want to be seen by the people I love.
I want to be enough.
But I’m not.
Not for them.
I want to take this painful experience and allow it to create something beautiful.
I know in my heart that my worth is provable.
But not for them.
For me.
I know I can be a better version of myself.
Life...

The Witch Patch Ch 4
The trouble with neighbors
After gaining my composure, I get up off the ground and attempt to brush myself off from any leaves that might be stuck to me. It is now the second week in October here in Plymouth Massachusetts, and it is at peak season. There are literally millions of leaves on the ground and anywhere else they can cling themselves too, including my clothes.
A bunch of oak, maple, and dried up grass hitched a ride onto my shirt and jeans and unfortunately the brush-off strategy was unsuccessful. So, I start plucking leaves off my clothes...

The Witch Patch page 2 and 3
Fritters and more
Raven and I ate a quick lunch of tuna-fish sandwiches with a side salad and washed it all down with two glasses of fresh honemade leominade. After washing our hands and brushing our teeth we headed out the door. Hero led the way to Garrisons Orchard which is literally less than an 8th of mile from our house. It’s Sunday, the best day for a nice walk…

The Mania Explainia (A Modest Sonnet Cycle)
Sonnets? But why? Are they not a bore?
Did they not die out with the cavaliers
Or fade away in rune font times of yore?
Nay! They are here and cheer the eyes and ears!
Undisciplined verse lacks clever timing
Its untutored beat is ever a shame
But sonneteers with glorious rhyming
Jot glamourous thought for immortal fame!
When formless poems seem so poorly wrought
Sonnets gracefully tell their tales
And will not leave the reader so bestraught
Like those all too common free verse fails.
Melancholy denizens…rejoice!
Your night is...

Must of been dreaming
Example for my Writers Block competition.
I woke up in a convalescence unit somewhere in Yorkshire England mumbling to myself, “you expect too much from me.” I quickly realized I must be trippin’ or dreaming. The latter seems more likely but played along with my own mind anyway. I called the airlines using my cell phone and booked a flight out of there ASAP back to America! —Damnit! I couldn’t remember if I had my papers in order and start frantically looking for my...

FROM DUSK TO DAWN FROM DUST TO STONE (4-24-2022, 11:30am, Palm Springs, California)
upon waking
every morning
i pause
to linger
to softly reflect
on whatever
dreams
may have
come along
into and through me
throughout
the night
from dusk
to dawn
that i
can still recall
as well as
other dreams
i may have
had
i cant recall
at all
that slipped away
back into
sleeps ...

Painting with words
There are many ways
of making art with words.
Some poets order them formally—
counting out syllables,
conducting their rhythms precisely,
following the rules,
producing classical beauty.
Some delicately
sprinkle
a few
select sounds.

EVEN LESS (Palm Springs, California)
i suspect
i must take
some deep measure
of pleasure
in my need
to play
so freely
with words
to such excess
as i have
for so many
years
yet in my
blind wake
i sometimes
still sense
feel see
doubt or fear
that perhaps
im leaving
too little
behind
in what
im really trying
to more clearly
express ...
