Marble

Where there was once
heat
so much heat
it could fill a room
just the mere thought of
your touch, caress
mouth against mine
penetrating me with
every part of you
that lust that felt
like it could go on
forever
being completely
lost in each other

but, just like steam
it evaporated into thin air
you could almost feel the
extraction of it
as if a part of
you was being torn away

not all at once
but piece by
painful piece

caught in an endless
storm of emotion,
pain
not because you
didn't want it
but because you did
and it was always
somewhere just
beyond your reach

even as I looked
into the eyes I once
would have drowned myself in
and saw nothing
but my own reflection
a dark vacant mirror

I moved in to look
more closely
at what had become
of us
your eye a deep
blue pool, so cool
so smooth, so hard,
as impenetrable
as stone.

not even your
breath against
my skin felt warm
I had never known such
coldness, such a
hardness that lacked
any semblance of
the heat we once shared

it was just gone
as if a judgement
had been passed
and suddenly all we
had once been to
each other
was set in stone

here and gone.....
