Darkness fills the air

Darkness fills the air,
it blankets all and soothes my mind,
Provides the time for me to find,
some comfort in a world where i'm alone,
Water flowing free,
Feel as safe as i ever will be,
And wind that whispers just to me,
Bold cold and silence will never do me harm,

A stubborn ancient charm,
Rugged cliffs they shelter and protect me,
No need to have respect in me,
Just stare out across the eternal vacant sea,
I know that here is where i shall remain,
Where i feel no shame and lesser pain,

Darkness fills the air,
Shadows of those who never were,
No sign of them, no thought of her,
No memory, fear or hatred gets to grow,
But i will always know,
The niggling itch that did begin,
Scratching hard but it's just numb skin,
escape provides just that, but not a cure,

and now i'm all too sure,
Rugged cliffs they shelter and protect me,
No need to have respect in me,
Just stare out across the eternal vacant sea,
I know that here is where i shall remain,
Where i feel no shame and lesser pain,

For I cannot love now,
If I ever knew how,
And now I’m alone in body and mind,
Too lost for even myself to find,
A lonely soul like the moon blocked out by a cloud,
I doubt I’ll ever laugh aloud again or feel any reason to be proud,

Darkness fills the air,
I see the faces of all I knew,
Friendly smiles of naïve youth,
And those I didn’t have to courage to make a friend,
Now those chances have been and went,
The girls that chased, just so I could block,
The friends I shunned, who were solid like a rock,
My mind has floated away to what might have been,

Things I wish I’d seen,
Rugged cliffs they shelter and protect me,
No need to have respect in me,
Just stare out across the eternal vacant sea,
I wish I could leave, but I shall remain,
Where calmness will soon become horrendous pain.
