For The Departed

You were told to leave behind all doubt
Kissed your wife goodbye on that train
Six months gone and you stood proud
All that we are is holding up that flag

Farewell son may you never fall
And keep that conscious bare
Yeah, Yeah, Yeah

I'll hold you deep inside my heart
I will see you again on the other side
Between this life or the next

Burning fields are up ahead
With the raining black overhead
Cannot distinguish night from day
But that deafening roar is your own feet

You recall the memory of your grandaddy
Rolling through that jungle some years before
With the chemical rain descending over the line
Leaving this place forever in disarray

Farewell son may you never fall
And keep that conscious bare
Yeah, Yeah, Yeah

I'll hold you deep inside my heart
I will see you again on the other side
Between this life or the next

I know every soul is never untouched
The horrors of war will come fast and slow
You will not remain the same when you return
But you will carry on with that memory in your heart

Farewell son may you never fall
And keep that conscious bare
Yeah, Yeah, Yeah

I'll hold you deep inside my heart
I will see you again on the other side
Between this life or the next
