Red, Blue, or Green, we all have to live here

Saddest thing about political discourse
in this time and space
is so many issues should transcend parties
not even talking about race

Now if your child is in a park
and gets thirsty on a summer day
clean water free of pollution
is what we want going that way

Doesn't matter if you are blue
living in California sun
or red in rural Oklahoma
were whipping winds make anything come undone

A bullet intended for a gang member
that goes wrong and sprays away
doesn't ask Democrat or Republican
before it marks some innocent prey

Coal dust from blowing off a mountain
doesn't take it easier on a stout Green
then an energy at all cost Tea Partier
in anyone's lungs it will be mean

A mother whose child that is starving
doesn't contemplate the ballot picks
just doing what she can
to make sure that little one doesn't get sick

I know that ever since Adams and Jefferson
lines have been drawn firmly in the sand
but isn't there something more noble
what we all should really demand?
