What Was
My son sleeps sound, sound tonight
I drift in his dream tonight, to keep him company
Letting him know I am always here
I am the gentle wind, wrapped around my love
In her time of need, I let her know
Grief won't push through everyday
The seam is worn now
But in time the hurt will mend
I can't restore what was
I don't regret carrying that flag
Giving my life for a truth so pure
But you must hold on
Learn to breath once again
Cause I'm not far away
Oh away
The cold covers my land, my land
Slow is the process of healing
My family hold onto my memory
But like a scar they fade away
Once in a while they visit me
I no longer see the hurt in their eyes
And I am grateful now
Knowing, knowing they have forgiven me
For never returning home
I can't restore what was
I don't regret carrying that flag
Giving my life for a truth so pure
But you must hold on
Learn to breath without me
Cause I'm not far away
Oh away
Oh away
Years they come and go
But my family they carry on
I see what was lost become whole
Finding another who can take my place
I can't restore what was
I don't regret carrying that flag
Giving my life for a truth so pure
But you must hold on
Learn to breath without me
Cause I'm not far away
So young to spread my wings
I can't restore what was
So young to spread my wings
I can't restore what was
I drift in his dream tonight, to keep him company
Letting him know I am always here
I am the gentle wind, wrapped around my love
In her time of need, I let her know
Grief won't push through everyday
The seam is worn now
But in time the hurt will mend
I can't restore what was
I don't regret carrying that flag
Giving my life for a truth so pure
But you must hold on
Learn to breath once again
Cause I'm not far away
Oh away
The cold covers my land, my land
Slow is the process of healing
My family hold onto my memory
But like a scar they fade away
Once in a while they visit me
I no longer see the hurt in their eyes
And I am grateful now
Knowing, knowing they have forgiven me

I can't restore what was
I don't regret carrying that flag
Giving my life for a truth so pure

So young to spread my wings
I can't restore what was
So young to spread my wings
I can't restore what was
