My Guardian Angels

Cold noses, sparkling eyes, warm fur
Paw prints all over my heart

My guardian angels have silken coats
Playful and loving, protecting me for all that is evil, ugly about this world

Frolicing and eternally happy, life's a milkbone treat
They always sought out the little boy in me, got him to come play

Tail chasing in spring, fireflies on summer evenings,
Leaping into freshly raked leave piles, shovel fulls of snow

Kita and Mishka were always together, one blue eye, three brown eyes
Sled dogs and snow puppies, always in step

Always there when I needed them, that's no lie
Lying beside me that day I almost died, almost gave up

Their lives were long, full of love and joy
Reminding me to savor the moment, chase the bouncing ball

But sadly they passed away, across the rainbow bridge
At times I think I can still hear their collars, feel their presence beside me

But of course I still do, for they still do keep watch
For some guardian angels have paws instead of wings
