Deaf
Silent cries
Unheard lies
A society defined by it's incessant sighs
I walk through life
Oblivious to the constant stream
Of never-to-be dreams
A world foreign to the concept
Of an enduring hope
I'm not privy to the proclamations
Of lives un-spent
From people falling far short
Of making even a shadow of their rent
Along my path I pass
The people who smell death
As though it were heaven's scent
And people so unfamiliar with food
It's as though they live a life of lent
I see children
A few feet short of the grave
And young people
Who've lived past their prime
And are opting for the escape
Re-writing their reality
While they await their ever encroaching fate
I live my life
To the sounds of the street
Not hearing the sprawl of humanity
As a matter of choice
Deaf to the destitute
By my mad-world mufflers
Blinded to all but the beauty
By my bedlam blinkers.

Much appreciated Ophie, I think it's stems from my vocabulary. It's actually quite surprising and vaguely disturbing to hear my own voice.

I can't not in the slightest. You try it, the louder you speak the louder the thing drowning you out goes. :D

true yet when you listen back to your recording you're bound to match your personality with your voice.
It seems to be that you're not much of a talker. if you were you wouldn't have such trouble recognising your voice.

That would make sense but truth be told a gabber on incessantly about this or that non-nonsensical thing all day long.
Oh and as for being scottish, I've got royal blood in me :). The Stuart clan.

This is a very nice poem portraying ignorance to society while demonstrating that it exists at the same time. Many people can relate to this whether they like it or not, and I'm glad you wrote a piece like this :).

Thanks, we have this idea that if we ignore it, it won't really matter if it exists or not.

This is beautiful and evocative, inspiring an acknowledgement of a known ignorance. The rhythm flowed effortlessly and your articulation of it added a rich depth.
