That Trick with your Panties
My movie screen tonight
is the ceiling of a tired motel.
I am replaying
'The Fall Of Your Panties'
a special performance
in my head
I watch as you tease them
skillfully down
slower than a foggy Monday
in upstate Chicago
where it's cold enough outside
to freeze a bird
but the silky highway of your thighs
never fails to turn up the heat
I drink each dimple of skin
as those panties descend
wide eyes celebrating the wonder
of every fine hair and curve
white lace embroidery
caressing tan-lines
to turn them
deliciously brown
When at last
they eventually arrive
final stop
destination floor
you do that skitter,
the thing with your ankles
then smile at me
before you kick them away
under the bed
That's the moment
you win the Oscar
It's when I always gasp out loud
because I know what's coming
We both know
that the panties never fail--
& even a thousand miles away
they can still
bring it all home.
