Next Year
Summer comes in waves
Crashing down upon the ground
Drowning the past we lamented
And breathing in new life
Dreams come and go like the wind
Some are held onto so tightly
And are bathed in the sunlight
The others, cast into the darkness
Then it all turns into one big party
Full of optimists and pessimists
The sun feels so good upon the skin
But it’s cooking us alive, you know
You grow older every day
And more beautiful as well
You lie out in the sun and wait
For it to swallow you whole
I watch the change from a good view
And wonder if it will be the same next year
If all that took place before me
Could change in any sort of way
The breath of life might not be enough
The dreams let go could be salvaged
We’ll all be broiled, burnt to a crisp
And your perfect body will be devoured next year
Crashing down upon the ground
Drowning the past we lamented
And breathing in new life
Dreams come and go like the wind
Some are held onto so tightly
And are bathed in the sunlight
The others, cast into the darkness
Then it all turns into one big party
Full of optimists and pessimists
The sun feels so good upon the skin
But it’s cooking us alive, you know
You grow older every day
And more beautiful as well
You lie out in the sun and wait
For it to swallow you whole
I watch the change from a good view
And wonder if it will be the same next year
If all that took place before me
Could change in any sort of way
The breath of life might not be enough
The dreams let go could be salvaged
We’ll all be broiled, burnt to a crisp
And your perfect body will be devoured next year
