Love to a Gunfight
"We're bringing love to a gunfight."
~ Janiva Magness
Your enemies are your greatest teachers
—the ones who step on your triggers
revealing wounds that haven't yet healed
Each lesion that re-lacerates history
is an opportune time to decide
how we're going to react or reply
There are no coincidences in life
nor mistakes, only experience
lessons to spiritually advance
Thank those who perceive you
their adversary—their gift
is the greatest opportunity:
Choosing not to respond
to judgment and hostility
from a place of anger or pain
But maintaining honor and dignity
by focusing on the root cause
of our own wounds instead
That choice enables us to heal
and see the deep-seated suffering
in another's words and deeds
Believe that one day soon
everyone will choose freedom
and truth within their own wounds
So that we can all become
a peaceful army of might
marching our Love to a gunfight

There are no coincidences in life. I needed to read this tonight. Thank you for the reminder, Ahavati.

Nope, none at all, Mary. Everything has a purpose, and that purpose is to assist us. Thank you for the consideration. xo

This is very relatable as it is inspiring words ✍️ of courage and perseverance, with determination to remain resilient and positive on what we must do, to be able to just walk away from the negativity and drama and confusion and chaos, and crying in alone in the mist of it all only having your faith, to keep you focusing on yourself to realize that, you must never give up, on your own life 🙏. For sure it's necessary to understand that it's not over when you lose, it's over when you QUITE on living the best days of your own life 👊👏💯💪👍

Thank you so much, Stoney, for a lovely response filled with hope and optimism. No one can compete with me because I want us all to win. I mean, think about it, if everyone wins, then everyone is happy and there would be no jealous and competitive bullshit for attention.

"Choosing not to respond

I believe that love can conquer everything and that war / violence is not the answer to war / violence. Nor is anger the answer to anger. Love this profound piece of yours, it's a gem, Ahavati 💕

Thank you so much, Duende. You are absolutely right. Certainly doesn't mean we don't slip, especially when it comes to our children/grandchildren. My father told me a long time ago that if the devil couldn't get to you directly then it would go through someone you love.
It angered me immensely at first because they're innocents; however, then I realized how miserably evil a woman has to be to resort to such matters like attacking someone's children.
Children are a gift from God, and it is written:
"Children are a gift from the Lord; they are a reward from him"
I realize how BLESSED I am to have received such a gift.
Thank you, Sweet Lady. xo

Gods A! Have been going through this of late.. n there I find this here in a duly pc .. yes , anger n hostility is not gonna solve a thing instead worsen .. it’s a soulful one’s wise n clear stand .. a stance in all truth n love .. that will correct n heal ourselves ,.. I truly truly believe that even a thought of anger or malice in heads is a brutal violence n death .. ever ever it’s wise to choose love this love ever .. for heal n peace of self of beings of around of world .. now that i too believe there is a buffering layer of righteous anger n violence needed by a truthful revolutionary soul sometimes ..
A gem of a write this is A .. much needed lucidity n soulful essence in here .. ♥️🤲 xo

Thank you so much, Sweet Uma! I could not agree more about the buffering layer of righteousness, especially when it comes to one's children and grandchildren. Come at me all you want but leave my children alone.
It was shocking but now I see it for what it is - pure, unmitigated evil attempting to go through them because it couldn't get to me directly. Let the stones fly - they are protected. I have that assurance along with "Vengeance is mine, I will repay. . ."
Much love to you, Sweet Lady! xo

That's a really powerful message of turning adversity into growth. I like the idea of "bringing love to a gunfight" not as naive optimism, but as a conscious choice to heal and understand. It's a reminder that even in conflict, there's an opportunity for transformation, both for ourselves and for those who challenge us. "Your enemies are your greatest teachers" - that's a tough truth, but a valuable one.

Yes, the metaphor is intended as a healing vs literal one. Yep, that truth is a difficult pill to swallow at times, but it can be done with patience and work.
Thank you for your astute observations and thoughtful comment.

I love this! :) Great message in here to take to heart and soul and it is true, those like that are miserable inside so they lash out. I guess it makes them feel better. My problem personally is always seeming to somehow, some way letting those kinds of people in my life and letting myself be taken advantage by them because I am too nice but I am learning. :) I don't want to become a complete jerk either but I am much more careful of whom I let into my "close circle" anymore and when(because I know presently a "certain someone" will reach out to me again it's going to be a conversation where I assert myself too(calmly) and if it all goes to hell so be it. Not worth having in my life anyway. Sorry the long speech lol. Love this though :)

Thank you, Michael! Yep, it's a hard truth to learn but a necessary element of growth. Boundaries are so vital, and situations will repeat themselves until the lesson is learned and the boundary established. I think what helped me the most was loving myself as I loved my children and learning to be as protective of myself as I was them.
I know your wiccan, and I'm certainly not a radical Christian; however, I do love me some truthful scripture, one being the greatest commandment: Love thy neighbor as thyself.
The issue with the world is that most don't love themselves; thus, it's impossible to love another.
My circle is so tight I don't think the jaws of life could open it!
Love yourself, Michael! You are worthy.
Thank you for such a lovely comment. If poetry doesn't influence a person to be introspective, then what good is it?

Oh don't get me wrong my friend, Wicca is just the path I choose. There are many paths and I respect them all as long as they do not involve hurting others in any way including animals and all life. I find a lot of good life lessons in all religions and ways of life. To me ultimately all paths ultimately lead to the one ultimate creator or creators or whatever higher spirit there is. All paths are simply "roads" so to speak to the Higher Power whatever that may be and there is much to learn through all of the great scriptures. :)

It takes a certain amount of discipline, restraint and wisdom to remain on the side logic and stoicism. Even when emotions are running wild, we understand there are consequences that follow.
