A Valuable Lesson

So I was at the public library here in town the other day. I live in a very small town by the way. Just returning some books my kids had borrowed. Nothing to make a big deal about you’d think.

After putting the books on the return desk, I decided to go over to the autobiography section just to take a gander. I start looking for musicians in particular. Ones I don’t have or haven’t read.

Off on the other side of the library there was a group having a meeting. It’s audible what they’re saying, but it’s by no means yelling at the top of their lungs. It sounds like a writing class of sorts. Discussing amongst themselves peacefully.

Anyhow I look back to the shelf and return to browsing. Unfortunately, there’s nothing new, pretty much the same selection of books as last time. I start making my walk back towards the entrance.

As I’m nearing the door there’s a younger guy behind the counter where I had dropped off the kids books. Who’s on a phone but motioning me his way. By on the phone it was up to his ear, I assume someone is on the other end.

He puts the phone down and in a smug tone says: “Are you in the writing group or looking for the writing group?” I replied: “No, I just returned some books.”

He laughs, then abruptly cuts it off pompously. And spews this response my direction. “I didn’t think so, you dress like your some kinda aged rock musician. Do you even write?”

I replied: “Do I write? Do I write? I’m Damian “Fucking” DeadLove!………. I’ve been known to write a verse or two.”

Never saw him again. I wish him well and hope he learned a valuable lesson.

Author's Note
Late night musing. I couldn't think of anything serious tonight. Thought I'd try my hand at comedy. What's the worse that could happen? Appreciate you.
