I hope to see you there
Gentle air fills dying lungs
Under blue skies and bitter chill
Folk tunes playing through blown out speakers
Nervousness fills aching bones
Picking lint off of an expensive sweater without breaking eye contact
How did I get here?
Years of dreaming was never enough
Restlessness and addiction kept me stuck
Until the final push from the one who promised to never let me fall
An open door to the visions that have flooded my brain since adolescence
A bigger view caused for an emotional afternoon
But who am I to fight a feeling?
Writing out the final decision with frozen hands
Decades of indecision have lead me here
These streets are busy and looking down on me
Causing tears to fall on forest floors
That match the lining in your eyes
Adding pressure to what already felt crushing
Started spilling my thoughts to keep your attention
What does this mean?
Your gaze tells me there’s no such thing as too many drinks
But never enough time
Planning a future without any directions
Just a glimmer of hope
That a small town won’t be what is written of me
Maybe the preface to subliminal glances
Was it the same for you?
I think you felt it too
Crawling over me with split lips that cut like glass
Dripping down on dry skin and into my mouth
But I never did mind the taste of blood
A gentle reminder that we are still alive
Amidst a spinning room and rotating energy
That’s enough for this time around
But what happens now?
Interlocked fingers that tell stories we’ve never read
Boozy thoughts have always lead me astray
But I’d never tell you to slow down
Chasing you feels easier than swimming through the same faces in a bigger place
As you trace the scars engraved from those you’ll never know
But I can promise you even the softer notes in my voice are coated with heavier truth
Just don’t look past me because of another one’s impression
I guess we should end this here?
But if I can ask for one thing it’s to I hope to see you there
Under blue skies and bitter chill
Folk tunes playing through blown out speakers
Nervousness fills aching bones
Picking lint off of an expensive sweater without breaking eye contact
