Life Abides
Talk is cheap when it’s bathed in lies
Consuming sin like it’s a physical need
Promises are risky between taut thighs
Signing over the goods to plant a seed
Asleep at the wheel and losing ground
Temptation takes a soul when convenient
Waiting for old Scratch to come around
Read the fine print his terms aren’t lenient
Once darkness takes root inside frail veins
Robbing the light where love’s glow resides
Misery wraps emotion in tormented chains
With a bitter pill of false content life abides

Author's Note
Late night musing. For those who don't know, Scratch = Satan. He has many names of course. And also comes in many forms throughout life. Appreciate you.

Thanks for reading and your kind words, Pete. Yeah, I heard it used in a movie called, Crossroads. Not the one with Brittany Spears. Ralph Macchio & Joe Seneca are the stars. It has to do with Robert Johnson, the blues, and of course the crossroads. Great movie, kinda flew under the radar. Worth checking out, if you haven't seen it already. Appreciate you.

Thanks for reading and your kind words, Keith. Yeah, heard it on a movie called, Crossroads. I went into a little more detail in my reply to Pete, if you're interested in watching it. Great movie. Think you'd love the guitar duel at the end. Appreciate you.

Oh wow! Crossroads with Ralph Macchio? I've seen that a long long time ago. I'd have to revisit the film again. Great drama about blues music from what I remember.

Yeah, he verses Steve Vai at the end. Vai's name in the movie is Jack Butler. Great film, brother. Appreciate you.

Very clean, neat, and tidy presentation. Easy and enjoyable to read. You do a good job of constructing your concepts in these forms. Anyway, yeah, temptation and sin leading to death is what I take from this. When you give into them, you ultimately give demons more power and control. An easy way to lose your mind is to not be disciplined in morality and conscience, just generally speaking. If you add the spiritual component of it, we can't be properly alive without God, and we are separated from God when we sin. You only then begin to "live" for the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life. Literal, physical, carnal morality, rather than growing in spirit. Where fruit isn't being produced, God won't dwell in someone. The wage of sin becomes death, and to not have everlasting life in God's kingdom.

Dear DL,
That old scratch seeps in every open crack and makes his own when there aren’t any. The story you’ve created to show the capability of temptation is excellent. It made me think of all the ways I fall to those temptations. Especially when I’m in the car cussing out my fellow drivers 😏
Great write. H🌷

'' Asleep at the wheel and losing ground

When you defined Old Scratch this context became much clearer.
