time howls its silence

I shivered in a blanket of
cobwebbed emotions
as a day passed
with just a
scattered light
through the holes
in my soul

and it felt like
teeth clenching
in darkness
so honest
it showed
nothing

It felt like that

like that

it felt like alarms
blaring danger
on all sides as
the wind howled
like a raving thing
thirsting for
the spare copper
in my veins

yet less survivable

Yes.

Less survivable
than shivering
under the unkindness
of a happy sun
as hours crept by
without you

without you

(without you)

because

you are blue skies
at midnight in a hurricane

you are sunrise
in the void

you are solid ground
as the earth tilts
beneath my painted toes

and I lie here
blind in naked terror
peering through
my cobwebbed quilt
at flashes of your horizon

waiting for you
to uncover my face
as you cover my body
