compromise
“The purpose of human life is to serve, and to show compassion
and the will to help others.”—Albert Schweitzer
it is unwise
to compromise
the truth,
whether the time
be of your prime
or youth.
the ways of man,
whether by plan
or chance,
mark well from birth,
upon the earth,
his dance.
it is unkind
to wear a blind
passport
to shield the eye
from those who cry:
in short,
turn not aside
those who must ride
the storm;
reach out and bless
those who know less
life’s charm.
it is unjust
to watch love rust
and die,
no fervour left
for those bereft
of chi.
what is this life
if, full of strife
and pain,
we pass away
having no sway
or gain?
