We interrupt your scheduled broadcast for a brief anxious interlude
I remember this news story once
about a chicken that lived on for days
after they axed its head in the rain
not sure if I found myself longing
to run full pelt and aimless
or revel in the gift of no brain

Oh shit...this brought back a memory like a flashback of my 4 year old cousin chasing a headless chicken around the farmyard until it finally fell. Something about that image is seared into my eternal memory & haunts the crap outta me...

Oh my life… that’s quite the story! A sight to behold I should imagine!

Ok I never heard that, but it does bring to mind my mother telling me she was going to show me how to chop a chicken's head off. Nope, not for me. lol

I laughed at this, and then took a trip down memory lane. I went to a country school for a while. Agriculture was a subject I hadn't encountered before the age of 13, nor was chicken killing. I couldn't do it, and threw up in a barrel after watching someone else miss the chicken neck and basically chop half the chicken's head in half.
Anyways, I enjoyed this, despite the gory memory my brain threw at me.

Honestly, I feel like I’ve traumatised people with this poem. Either that or I’m just amazed on a social level at how many people have stories about headless chickens… ha! Imagine that!
Sorry for the mild trauma but thanks for dropping in :)

This might be why I enjoy trail running - dashing wildly through the trees, and my brain's only focus is placing the next few steps to prevent ankle rollovers and wipeouts. A wonderful escape from sitting paralyzed with overthinking.
This also made me think of how we can sometimes just keep going even when life has clearly dealt something that should stop us in our tracks. Anxiety-fuelled zombie mode...
Mike the chicken, though - how the hell did it not starve?? Disturbing. But I don't even like chickens when they're intact.
Thanks for making me laugh, and think as well!

I know that chicken (Not personally).
I think it choked to death on the teat pipette they used to feed it.
The thing is they cut its head off then what, have a crisis of conscience because it lived? So letting live without a head is somehow better overall.
I think they just wanted a novelty chicken.
