Lingering Shadows - with Grace

Like a filigree in silhouette
of intimacy in shadows
entwined endless dreams
beyond dark's frigid nights
watching the fading lights
fingers caressing memories

memories etched in pastel walls
finger-painted careful strokes
woven with zigzags and whorls
lifting pages sheaves of books
they read together to stir memories
bizarre poems about twilight shadows

shadows that linger among fading pages
dogeared with tears of passing years
listening as the silence whispers
all things in vines entwined
and photographs of intimacy
beyond dark's frigid nights

nights that linger till the dawn
hesitant to release their darkness
the sovereign of the night dances
and  a yearning soul shed tears of pain
unwilling to part with memories
grasping hard at yesterday's fragrance
