E Major
I place my fingers on top of the keys
To belt out a simple melody
Instead, the pounding sound resounds.
Coming from deep underground
I wanted it soft and light as I felt
The world wanted something harder.
As the cord was struck by a hammer’s belt
Movement after movement in memorized
Syncopation
Sweat and tears played for no standing
Ovation
When the last tones were dealt
Leaving raised skin
Welts
A decision was made
There will be one less pianist on the stage.

When the muse has other ideas...we go with it. Sometimes it leads somewhere completely unexpected

Music is the language that speaks to our souls. It doesn’t have to make sense to anyone but us.
I’ll let you play for me. I get lost in almost anything.

It maybe needed a G minor chord in there somewhere to soften the blow. I know what you mean about E being somewhat in your face though. It's certainly a 'statement' chord, a bit like your poem. ;-)

Re. E Major
Music is a timeless Art, it sounds in our brain first as a trigger of eternal harmony, but some people only think that music is a way of relief and fun and dance and ......and.............
Classical music is based on scientific data along with physics and Maths..

I have been listening to that song on repeat for a few days now and I like that the song inspired you to write this poem.

I love that song by Selena, and your poem says something about the power of music. I'm not surprised you play.
BTW, my favorite song of hers is "Good For You"
